Fun problem to have, opinions??

So I missed out on some auctions and have money saved up. Should I keep saving for the keys to the set I'm working on or get working on the next series with several more common coins as a starter?

i just missed 3 auctions because i didn't update my sniping software with my new ebay password! arrrghhh
.
Some keys are stagnant right now and may be better to wait for just the right one.
Some may be a good deal right now if you find one you like.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I could not have said it any better. Get the keys.

its key
I collect the series in MS 66. I don't know about MS 64. The 85, 86, 12D and 12S rarely are available in 6, and I get the impression that they haven't been hit by the big price decline in the last three years that has happened with this series. OTOH, many of the slightly better dates have dropped in value by a good 50%.

Frankly, almost any "key" can be bought at any time. Most are not rare at all.
Also, be careful that you don't lose interest in the rest of the series once you own the keys.
Absent more information about what the OP collects, etc...if I were you, I would identify one coin that I always wanted, but that is normally out of my reach. I would continue to save my money until I could buy a nice example of that one coin.
It feels really good when you can do that.
