I hate when this happens

Yesterday I answered the doorbell to sign for my lot that I won at the S/B auction in Baltimore, and the young man is busily trying to fill out the peach colored door slip that they usually leave on your door if you're not home when all of a sudden yep he drops the package to the ground on my sidewalk. (cringe) I didn't say anything then filled out my portion of the slip to transfer ownership of the package. Well after closing the door I immediately open the package, (and it was one of those packages that is is a real stiff cardboard box wrapped with that hard to get off brown tape with the fibers going through it) and to my dismay I discovered that not the shell of the case was cracked but inside the shell on the right side it appears that the insert has cracked. I guess I'll never know if it was cracked then and there when the lad dropped it initially or if it was cracked during shipping or if it was cracked while in posession of S/B. But it definitely looks like I need to send it in for a reholder.

I wouldn't think the shell would crack if dropped while still in the packaging. Maybe I'm wrong.

  • I have had to send a few in for reholders, because of poor packaging. It is a pain, but not much else you can do. Ussually the stiff cardboard is a good shock absorber, but it looks like it did not work this time.

Do the images from the S/B auction show the damage?

Here's a quick pic. Not the greatest but you can see it looks damaged on the inside. If you look at the front of the slab it looks like the insert, if there is an insert looks damaged. I wouldn't complain at all but the coin that's inside is Charlotte mint coin.image

  • I'll bet it was cracked prior to the drop at the front door based on your packing description. Seems the package would have to be "slammed" down with full force to cause that to happen....You'll never know however..

I would be surprised if it cracked while in the packaging.... very unusual... Cheers, RickO
