Wouldn't the popularity of VCP and in the past Beckett Monthly, suggest that in sport cards the basic Austrian Value Theory does not apply?
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards. Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

If you're speaking of the subjective theory of value, then no-- the popularity of price guides would not, to my understanding, serve as a refutation of that theory.
I don't think anyone here is confused on the underlying motivation. The card wouldn't be available if there were no BBCE and it was just Steve's card. But no one cares! There are many less fun ways to get attention. Most marketing is annoying, deceptive and no one gets a thing. This is not annoying or deceptive, it's fun and a fellow hobbyist is going home with a sweet card.
Have you ever heard the ads on sports talk radio? You know, they come on when you are just trying to find out who got traded that day, but you're stuck with the radio because you're driving and if you look at your phone you might die or get a ticket. So you get yelled at about how "BARRY" has the best tickets and then those evil children come on to sing about "cars for kids". (are these ads national?) Regardless, that's the annoying decision those companies made with their marketing budget. BBCE is doing a great giveaway that has people excited and is generating positive energy for the hobby. The value of the card (which I just learned about) is higher than I would expect for this. Whatever the reason, these guys need kudos for pulling it off!
for BBCE

This thread is a symptom of what has been the decline of these boards.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy! Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
personally, I have far too much more to worry about than a person posting in the wrong forum. How nice it must be to be totally problem free so that there is time to worry about posting.....now let me get back to my real problems........
I am another board member who says thank you for the great gesture and giveaway and please continue to post to this part of the forum.
BBCE does a ton for the boards and cuts us nice deals for group breaks so any board member who has a problem with this thread I would suggest you either stay out of it, or try to one up BBCE and give away something bad ass also.
Seems to me that Meteorite Dude shouldn't get too high and mighty, seeing how he advertises that he's "always buying" at the bottom of every post he makes. Gotta love thread cops, especially hypocritical ones.

This specific forum is very clearly only meant for self-aggrandizing Cliff Clavins to explain to everyone else how dumb they are.

While I do not participate in those group rips it is a huge part of the board and BBCX has been a tremendous resource to many here.
That alone should allow you to post away.
This is a very exciting offer and I really enjoy learning about rare cards and I learned something new today."<
