FireFox Crashes........

Anyone else have a lot of crashes with older versions of FF? I need it in order to use the search function here so I'm loathe to update. It's a PITA to have to run to IE every time one wants to search the fora. Post a sizzling hot coin to celebrate this heat wave.

Only time I have to ditch chrome is when we can change our avatars. Then I just use Safari in developer mode and it lets me change it.

Yep, except I can't search here with it.

One can go to Tools, add-ons and then plugins and disable it that way too.
In checking this, I noticed that there is a Shockwave flash and a Shockwave for Director. Disabling the Shockwave for Director still lets one run the videos with the result that FF runs a little faster and better and my toolbars are back. Crash details still refer back to a "move player". When I click on options for an add-on it freezes FF.
The crash happens mostly when I close out FF. FF sometimes becomes "not responding" if eBay windows are open for an extended time.

Yeah, that's what I meant
I agree with Dimeman - I also have more trouble on my desktop than my laptop. Definitely memory related.

That must be why my AVG advisor [when I had it] would open up a little pop-up window saying how much memory FF was sucking up.
i love the ironies
firefox 3.6 which allows forum searches works better on my notebook. the only version and browser i've used on it since i got it over a year ago.
ff 3.6 slows and crashes after i use it a while on my desktop. could be because of all the things i do on my desktop though.
now i have ff 4.0 which doesn't allow advanced searches under the search button. arggh.
i just checked and with 13 plugins with firefox that i have installed on my desktop, i don't even know where to start disabling ><
not being able to watch police chases, cat/kitten, music, fail, metal detecting etc videos would be unacceptable, so no disabling plugins on desktops.

a notification that usually annoys me as i really don't go over 500, but when i get closer to 800-900 i know i'm about to have a browser crash and appreciate the notification.

Last week Firefox locked up while trying to access my Google mail account, when I opened the taskbar it was using almost 1.6Mb of RAM. Like Dimeman I have an older desktop with 512k RAM and if I use FF for more than half an hour it will slow to a crawl. Chrome has been a better option on the newer laptop but I've found it to be just as much a memory hog as FF, it just breaks it up into several separate processes.
