Roll collecting?
Anyone still doing roll collecting?
What kind of rolls do you like?
I like the years that the mint issued only satin finish coins in mint sets, and 1983 p rolls.

<< <i>the only roll collecting that i might do is if it is silver and the original roll ( good luck finding them now ) >>
I just inherited a bunch of original 1964 dimes, quartes & halves in the original bank rolls. I imagine they were socked away when they announced the changeover to clad coinage.
60 years into this hobby and I'm still working on my Lincoln set!
trimes
trickels
20 centers
half dimes
gold dollars
...someday.
almost had a roll of early halves once.
My collection has 31 rolls of different dates/mints including a pristine OBW of 1953S! Someday I will open all to see if I can boost my registry franklin sets or sell in tact.
Fun to hold and just decide later!
I also have Mint rolls of each years silver eagles going back to 2000. I like collecting these for two reasons;
- I think this coin is the most beautiful coin made today.
- Easy to sell as bullion and when price rises, I have the option to liquidate with a handsome profit.
<< <i>Yes... I have been collecting Franklin Half OBW rolls ( must gave a bank name and appear unopened) for the last 12 years.

Nice! Do you have a 1949-S? I think they're one of the toughest dates for OBWs.

Then roll frenzy ended, and collectors got back to single coins. Despite the fact that the Gray Sheet has bi-weekly listing of BU roll prices, I don't know of a dealer who offers them. Many years ago when my mother and father in-law were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, I wanted to buy a roll of BU 1950 cents. I had no idea where to buy them. Fortunately a dealer I knew had purchased a hoard of circulated rolls of coins, and a couple of rolls of 1950 cents were among them.
Anyone who reads these posts and has any real Franklin OWB's they may consider parting with will find a top price buyer here!
<< <i>I was doin a set of kennedy half dollars in OBW but damn were they hard to find, and I figured out how much room they would take up and how much they would weigh. That quickly changed my mind. So I sold all the more common dates and kept the good ones. >>
I spent over 5 years searching and finally completed a Kennedy OBW and Mint wrapped roll set. The '70 & '87s are included but, of course, are not OBW. Keep it up-to-date from the Mint every year. Really don't take that much room but is pretty heavy . . . About 100 rolls now.

1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
It consists of several Unc Morgan and Peace dollar rolls, pre 64 paper bank rolls of common silver and a healthy mix of circulated stuff from the 40's - 60's (lot's of 90% silver).
A collection of this type is out of my budged and I aquired it through an inheritance.
I sell a roll or two here and there to finance a more focused collection of the material I enjoy most..
I like the rolls though and hope to sell few more of them from this point on. Collecting Unc Morgans rolls is a bit out of my budget but I have to admit it's cool having a stash.
Problem is that those suckers are HEAVY! The folks at the bank have told me that I'm exceeding the weight limit for the safe deposit boxes and the hoard could be damaging the framing/support of the surrounding deposit box frames....
So it's more boxes to spread the weight around......
Oh well, one could have much more serious problems in life...
(and I do, as do most..... It's just part of the human condition) count my blessings ever day!
