USPS Express Mail not delivered after 6 days?

My wife shipped a package USPS Express Mail on the 29th to CAC. It was accepted in the Apple Valley CA post office at 2:30 pm and processed through the USPS sort facility in San Bernardino CA. at 7:45 pm. The last tracking shows departing USPS sort Facility June 29,2012. It is no where to be found. The Post Office says they are checking into it. CAC has been called and they have not received the package. Only once have I ever had an Express Mail package take longer than one day. I would like to know if this happens sometimes or should I start to panic now?
Thank you for any and all responses.

For the record with CAC I was 4 for 4 on my first 4 shipments to them. None made the overnight deadline, all shipping refunded.

I love how hassle free it is just go in fill out the paper and they give you cash.
The refund is secondary. It's the coins being lost is what worries me.
While frustrating I do think the package will make it.
Wanna tell us what you sent CAC?
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

My refunds for late express mail require no paperwork. Just show shipping receipt at the counter and they hand over cash.

I never claim these late fees. I figure doing so puts you on the "USPS black list" (and thus delays all your future packages 7 days).

The counter clerk actually just hands you cash and there's no real paper trail that would assign you a scarlet letter.
I have been lucky with overnight USPS Express Mail ... I think I am about 20 for 20 on that front (never late).
I have a feeling your package will arrive OK ... eventually.

<< <i>I once had a USPS Registered Mail package take 30 days to go from Texas to Maryland. I think a donkey would have been faster! However it did eventually arrive (with no explanation on the lateness).

You will almost never get a voluntary explanation from the USPS of why your item was late. There is no TOD guarantee for registered mail.
The real reason why your package is late

I personally would panic.
But that's just me.
