This coin seems to be the poster coin for collecting World Coins-

Who would not want such an exceptional coin like this in their collection?

    What an impressive example

Very nice! I feel better about what I spent on medals today after pondering the price tag on that one.

Poland commissioned the London Mint to strike circulating pieces of this coin. The London Mint apparently also struck a small run of proof versions of the coins--possibly as specimens retained by the mint for their own records.

The "official" mintage was 100 pieces. But I'm told the actual mintage was more like five.

This is one of only two that have surfaced. I wonder if it's possible the remaining specimens, if any, were destroyed when the Mint was bombed by the Germans during WWII.

As for what it costs: I got it for a little less than the price indicated in the thread I linked to in my first post above.

I have the circulation example of that coin - my favourite Polish coin. Though I have no real connection to Poland beyond travelling there and enjoying the country - I really like pre-war Polish coinage.

I hated breaking up a matching set, but I don't like the surfaces on the 5. That and I'll eventually need to eat again image

More and more I stare at the coin, I'm liking it and want to get a circulation one. I find foreign silver dollar size coins cool
