Gold up $51 today...

Not to jinx anything...but that's a stronger move than we've seen in a while.

Cause and effect. Gold went up because job creation went down. Be careful what you wish for. With that being said, own some gold. MJ

Gold now up $69.50! Not sure if one hot day qualifies as a run, but I've been waiting for something along these lines. Very similar economic conditions last year which damaged the Euro, are even more exaggerated now, yet gold has been declining. The same conditions in 2011 resulted in world-wide hoarding of gold, and a literal run on Sovereigns in Greece. This time around...the movement has been to to the US dollar. Until today, that is... Perhaps the "smart" money has been on the sidelines waiting for this. If this is the case, we could see a $200-300 run over just a few weeks time as investors shift their portfolios.

I'm sure you've all heard this before but it's something that I find to be useful:

"Have some gold in your portfolio as a hedge and pray like crazy that it doesn't do well."

To me, the price of gold isn't the correct term. A more correct term is the value of a dollar. Gold actually is money.

It used to be 1/400th of an ounce. Now it's only buying 1/1600th of an ounce. It's probably a fair assessment that green paper money buys about 1/4 of what it did just 10 years ago.

I know this has been discussed here before, but dovetailing with what the fat cat is saying:

What's the best deal on numismatic gold right now. In other words, what coin(s) have gold content that closely approaches, or just barely exceeds its numismatic value? MS64 St. Gaudens????

The wife wants us to have more gold

Although they are not pre-1933, I suggest modern (1984 and later) $5 and $10 US gold commemoratives. Some carry significant numismatic premiums but most do not.

I think the bad economic news and the much greater possibility of another inflationary QE may have killed that cat and threw it off a tall cliff.

If the trend is still up next week it might have legs. For now feels like short covering.

Even in PCGS holders $5 modern Commems go for right around spot. Seems to be the best deal out there imo...Wish my wife was more like yours image

There'll be no testing of even $1800. The exchange raising the options costs crushed the last mini-bubble and shut off strong moves to the upside.

Gradual 100 day average downward drift until after the election. Major European shocks somewhat discounted except for abig one.

The last rounds of QE havent brought any inflation, so why should another make any difference?
