    I don't think a weak strike would necessarily keep a 44-S from grading 65. I'll say 64 and give it a star.

I have a '44S from an original roll with no signficant marks or abrasions and better central detail than this that only garnered a 64 at NGC when submitted ~10 yr ago. No idea how they would grade a color coin like this today, 64* to 66* is my guesstimate range.

I'm thinking 64...Super nice eye appeal and I would for sure be a player if up for auction. Very nice piece!!

Assuming it is an "S", and with only the obv to GTG . . . I'd guess NGC 65*.

    Love the color ! ! !

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

MS 64 and IMO doesn't warrant a star but is still a nice looking coin!

Key word being opinion. The whole star thing is nonsense. Its completely subjective yet people pay more money for a little star on the label. image

65 and a great look as far as I'm concerned. I gave up long ago trying to figure out NGC's star system so I won't comment on that.

I'm almost certain this coin has been shown on the forum fairly recently and remember admiring it then. Whether it was Lloyd or the person who sold it to Lloyd who posted it I can't remember. Tough date for strike -- mine is a fairly boring white version.

    Thanks for sharing!image

The weak strike and little hits on the devices keep it at MS64.

Love the color on this one image

Looks like a 64 to me, there are enough nicks to make me hesitate to say 65. Add in the weak strike, even for a 44-S there should be a little more hand detail and you've got a 64.

64ish. While NGC could have easily given this a 65* I just don't think PCGS would appreciate the overall look and light colored high points, even if most or all of that is
strike for the typically weakly struck 44-s. I would not call this spotted and mottled toning wild even though there are rainbow colors mixed in.

Weak strikes and 44-S's go together like peanut butter and jelly and the services allow for it. I know some of you hate that but it is what it is. Here is a 66 in PCGS plastic for strike comparison sakes. The typical missing in action left hand. First coin not mine. second coin is mine. Also a 44-S in PCGS/CAC. The OP's coin could very well be a 66. MJ
