Nice Arnie, I am still hoping to land an auto of his. It looks like the no numbers this year are the A&G backs! Found one in my stack. Anyone doing the mini sets this
    year?

Get ready forum members... because unless you're a case breaker... this is going to be a "trades required" set to complete!

Hands down, the worst coalation I've seen in a Topps product in years! I busted 5 boxes from a freshly opened case... I've only sorted through the SP's and the 200's so far. While I have doubles & triples of most, even some quadruples... just in the base 200's... I'm 9 cards short on the base set! Seriously, not even a complete base (1-300) set out of 5 boxes... that's honestly just crazy to me!

5 boxes yielded... 1 Harper, 2 Darvish, 2 Cespedes... that's not good considering none of those are SP's!

I'll get some scans up later, along with my trade/want list image

3 of the boxes yielded the typical 1 auto & 2 relic... auto's were all of non-baseball players I never heard of
1 of the boxes yielded 3 relics
1 of the boxes yielded 2 relics & a silk card (numbered 10/10)

Not only did I get one of the dreaded balloon boy relics... I got 2 image

Getting killed on the ink again so far but at least I got the rip card. Love when it's a no brainer to rip or not too. Won't be ripping it until the case is done. Always have to save them for last.

I will say if you're a Yankee collector, you won't find a better team set in anything else, that's for sure. Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle DiMaggio, Berra, Jeter, Reggie, Rivera, etc...

good luck on the Rip! I think there might be a Yaz wood in there!

  • zep33zep33 Posts: 6,897 ✭✭✭
Walt, did you really get wood or was it just a woody?

box 5 and 6 - Love the Petty auto, I pulled a red ink Kyle Petty last year so those 2 will look good together

Done sorting my 5 box break... here we go...

UPDATED 7/12/2012 6:26PM CST: New List coming soon, later on the thread

Nice hits, love the Plamer, Petty auto is sweet. He signs all of his autos like that, at the end of each race he will sign for as long as there are people there and he takes his time.

Kind of a cool switch with the no number A&G back.

Very nice, The ones I see on eBay are mostly modern coins. Nice to see one from the 40's.

Hopefully someone here pulls some ink from them. I see an Ernie Banks blue ink 02/15 on eBay. Very nice stuff.

Can't wait to get ripping tomorrow.

no, I only ripped 6 boxes. Saved 6 for tonight so when the withdrawal hits me tomorrow, I can just go buy more from Tom or in Hyannis image

I would put that Harper on ebay ASAP. You can always get it back later for about 600% less in a few weeks

    Thanks,

I was pumped to see the red ink.

Box 2 is done, man I am so slow at ripping these---it will take me forever.

Box 1 only had 22 minis and box 2 had 19. Got a cabinet hi-light card Cal Ripken - Lou Gehrig and N43-15 Tony gwynn.

2 nice relics and auto (almost a Harper)image

    Harper and Darvish base cards.

So disappointed with the coalation from my 5 box break last night... I did the only truly illogical thing...

I went back to my LCS after work today and bought 3 more boxes!!!

Cracked the first box so far... and pulled this bad boy...

    image

Finally, I really decent hit from a product this year!!!

Will have an updated list later this evening... looking forward to making some trades image

Boxes 3-4 were a lot less dramatic.
Did get another Harper and Darvish base cards and a Red Sox auto.

    Also a Teixeira A & G back with no #

Here were my good hits from the last two boxes today...

    image

Yesterday, 3 for 5 on auto boxes... today, 3 for 3!!! I'm not sure, but from what I've seen... 6 for 8 is beating the odds!

The Jesus card... not really a hit... but that's going into my next submission. How can I not get better grades when I got Jesus in the sub???

    Love the Pedroia!!

Just got my 2nd rip card out of the same case - that's a first for me and with as many cases I've bought in the past with no rip card, I'd have to get about 6 more before I felt guilty - or not

    boxes 7 and 8

As silly as this sounds, is that a Jesus rookie card? I did a quick eBay search and don't see any previously manufactured Jesus cards.

A Trout mini auto just closed for $750! I have my case but am so tired, I'll probably wait until tomorrow to rip.

Wow, that is one heck of a finish. I might have to go back and get some more ginter tomorrow. I really wasnt planning on doing any this year but I have been sucked in.

Now if I could just finish my 2007 to 2010 sets up I would be super happy. I think I am like 6 Black minis away from finishing one year and just gave up and packed them up.

I was psyched to pull the Harper. I'm actually gonna try to keep it. I really wanted a Strasburg a couple years ago and couldn't manage to pull one. This pretty much makes up for it

That was definitely my best case ever and still have 2 more chances with the rip cards when I get around to them.

  • WaltWalt Posts: 1,275 ✭✭✭
man that was hot stuff! I pulled a Clemente Rip card /10 today. Goes well with the Neil Walker wood 1/1 I pulled yesterday. My autos have been crap though. Everything
is for trade. I have a ton of minis and other things.

  • Pedroia is probably a ssp auto. First I've seen of that one getting pulled.

This years auto checklist must be loaded with sp. Best ever for Ginter.

Well I got a little antsy so I opened four boxes. I will post a more elaborate thread after I finish the case, but a few highlights:

    Rizzo autograph
    Guy Bluford autograph redemption
    Roberto Clemente 02/10 Silk Card
    Michael Phelps relic

2 no# minis (Zobrist and Billingsley)

1 Men in Hats (forgot which hat)

After four boxes, I already got two duplicate relics in Greg Gumbel and Michael Young, so that isn't great, but so far I've got some decent value. NO IDEA what the Clemente will bring since there are no others on the 'Bay.

Great case rips guys, so far no bummers. Lots of red ink and rip cards. Sweet Banks red ink.

Zep 2 rip cards in one case and Harper auto? That could only happen to you.

Sorry for the double post but does anyone have any idea why some players are in their former teams jerseys on the relic cards? Theriot, F**dome and Zambrano just the 3 that I noticed.

Maybe it corresponds to the team the jersey came from.
