I have several Dahlonega pieces that were sold in the so-called "Apostrophe" auctions. This piece was purchased by my friend and forum member "Dahlonega" in Auction '84, which was offered by Stack's in their sale of the Arthur Montgomery Collection. Years later "Dahlonega" sold the coin to me. The photo is by BluCC.

Here's another of my coins that came from Auction '84's Arthur Montgomery Collection. Earlier it had been sold by Stack's in their 1976 sale of the Garrett Collection. I bought the coin in 2003 from Doug Winter (graded AU55 by NGC, but without the provenance on the cert label). The transaction was facilitated by friend and forum member "Dahlonega." Afterwards I submitted the coin to our host for the crossover service.

Still have a near mint copy of the Numisma '95 sale, with the full page plate of the Colonel Green - F.C.C. Boyd - Lelan Rogers 1794 Flowing Hair Dollar in Gem Unc., and the full page plate of the Lelan Rogers 1796 16 Stars and 1797 Draped Bust Half Dollars. These three lots were the highlight of the sale, along with the Norweb 1873-CC Arrows Dime and the Mint State 1796 No Stars on Obverse Quarter Eagle, and last but not least, the entire Waldo Bolen Collection of U.S. Dimes. This was one of the most memorable public auctions to occur in the latter part of the 20th century, even in contention with Bass, Eliasberg and Pittman.

These were "pre-ANA" sales back when Bowers and Ruddy (Bowers and Merena after 1982) had a lock on the ANA sales. Limited to 500 lots per company, 2000 lots total.

I have one of the presentation Bay Bridge Commems that was sold in the 89 Auction. I bought it in another auction for half the price. Fun auctions, I always got blown out of the water.

That 1845-D is amazing and looks much better than a 61 to me.

I was in 7th grade when the first one came out, but never bid in any of the sales.

I used to own all of the catalogs. I believe it was Auction '79 or Auction '80 where the 10% buyer's fee was instituted.

I've got a complete set of the 12 catalogs tucked away on one of the bookshelves along with a few hardbound copies - at the time, the hardbound's could be picked up quite reasonably.

    That's pretty cool image

I know those hardbound copies are really quite scarce now.

The only coin I ever bought at an "Apostrophe" sale was this 1806 half eagle. Those sales were always held just before the ANA conventions. Superior sold it at the Auction '82 sale. They graded it AU-50. It is now in a PCGS AU-58 holder.

The coin market was weak in 1982. Before the sale the auctioneer apologized before the sale began for the material offered. “Given the market” it was the best consignments they could get. There were no buyers’ fees back then.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I bought a number of choice/gem unc seated and Barber coins out of the '83, '84, '85, '86 and '88 Apostrophe sales as I was knee-deep in buying coins at that time.
Those auctions tended to have the best coins all in one place.

My most memorable and favorite coin came out of the '86 sale.....1867-s 25c in gem unc. I had tracked the coin since 1975 and had been unable (ie too cheap) to buy it. When
it went for $30,000 at auction in April 1980 I figured I'd never ever own it. Fortunately, prices came back to reality by the mid-80's and the owner was probably tired of being
reminded that he paid so much for it. It sold for <$10,000 in 1986. Some others I can recall from those sales include a gem unc 1856-0 25c, gem unc 1850-0 dime, and choice unc
    1840 with drap quarter.
