Have you ever been in a lull and got jump started?

I just received my Numismatic News today and it has an article on the front cover by Ken Potter. The article talks about someone who bought a copy of Strike it Rich with Pocket Change and they found a 1983 copper alloy cent a few weeks after getting the book. Those kind of stories just fire me up. It is only the second known by the author. It got me thinking about this question, have you ever gotten in a coin collecting lull and then been jump started by a story like this or some other event?

The only time I've had a coin collecting lull since the early 1960s was when I had to go to graduate school to get my career going again. I resigned from my job, when back to MBA school full time, took 24 credits a semister and graduated early. During that period I had no money for coins and even let my Gray Sheet subscription lapse.

I did not need a "strike it rich" story to get me started again. All I needed was some money spend and few hours reviewing the books in my numismatic library and perhaps buying some new books. image
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
