#261027710747 Seller is from Austria. He uses Counterfeit in the title. How does ebay let stuff like this go by?

at least this seller isn't trying to pass it as real...but
stuff like this needs to be melted or stamped copy
everything in life is but merely on loan to us by our appreciation....lose your appreciation and see

Report sent to eBay. While it is accurately described, at this point in eBay's evolution,
I really think they should not allow stuff like this to be listed and sold.

It sure is UGLY!! I see no issue here.....What's the problem?

The coins are so weakly struck that it gives away their counterfeit status.

    To counterfeit is DEATH!

Death to the hobby. Better believe it. Anything under DRASTIC action will allow coins to follow antique toys into a memory of something that WAS.

I kid you not. I advertised 4 page ads in Antique Toy World and when the copies began, how many fellow dealers would JOIN me in trying to get them REMOVED from advertising? NONE..... that's how many. Sure, a bunch congratulated me on PAYING for space in my ads telling people how copies would ..... AND DID.... destroy that market.

Wreck a counterfeit for your future.

    Or STFU !!!
  • He is disclosing it for what it is, and there is no misrepresentation. I see no problem with this at all.

Counterfeit coins are not allowed to be listed on ebay.

I'm shocked this is still up.

the item is still up and what a deal on shipping. only $13image
  • I have zero problem here. I actually respect the seller for being so up front about it.
  • topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
I respect him too. He is HONESTLY providing substitutes for real things so people can fill their books with junk and not have to save up and buy a real thing.
It has to be very good for numismatics.
    Or metal casting
    Or home decorating
    Or something.

EVERY COPY FILLS A SPACE THAT WOULD NEED TO BE FILLED WITH SOMETHING REAL.

    But why do I bother.

Hypothetically, it is no problem at all.

Considering he is shipping from Australia it's probably fair. MJ

It's not listed on eBay USA so the rules are different.
    And shipping is international rate.

This is illegal, as the coin is legal tender. At a minimum, it should be stamped COPY.

It took a little longer to shut down due to the seller's country. I don't get the complexities...it's an ebay thing. Anyway, it's gone now.
    Lance.
  • If someone bought it and then complained that it was not real, eBay should not give back their money for reasons of idiocy.

If E-Bay is a US company, and they have knowlege that their platform is being used for an illegal activity, then I think they are acting illegally in a conspiracy.

    I do.

In the U.S. it is illegal to buy and sell counterfeit coins that are not marked "COPY." Ebay has pulled the listing as they should have done.

Look at it this way. The initial buyer might buy this thing as a counterfeit, but what's to stop him from re-selling it as genuine? One full disclosure does not close the issue.

But, but......I thought I had heard from certain people on here that if something has full disclosure from the start, that makes it ok as anyone who "can read and isn't an idiot" would be able to tell the difference.... image

Sarcasm aside, I agree with you....particularly having seen a friend get taken into buying something that NO ONE on these boards would have thought was real, but people NOT in numismatics don't know.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • telephoto1telephoto1 Posts: 4,914 ✭✭✭✭✭
Anyone who shrugs their shoulders and says 'it's OK, he said it was counterfeit' -or worse yet, buys such an item- is only encouraging further production of and propagating a market for these fakes. I aggressively report said items and am proud to have played some role in the removal of a relatively large number of them over the last 13 years or so we've been on ebay....though the majority have been done in the last 5-6 years or so. It wasn't nearly a much of an issue in the earlier days...
