Numismatic renaissance?

So, been pondering that numismatic value may soon be on the rise. I know many believe the "numismatic spread" is stagnant and increases are related to price of PM's (with the exception of the ultra rare of course). I believe a new appreciation for numismatic coins is coming from the bullion stackers and a renaissance is about to emerge. I could be off my rocker, but I know many stackers enjoy the coins, then an appreciation emerges, then examination, then a light goes off. I believe as the stackers cash in profits, they then seek out "examples" they can now buy guilt free. I sort of took that path, as a kid my collection was simply to hoard the silver coins I found (only because they were different not an understanding of PM's- but lucky accident) then I became (and still am) a stacker. But as I liquidated some items I bought some Morgans, then nicer specimens, then only PCGS, then only MS65 or better, then raw again as available and good buys, now I'm hooked on classic Commemoratives. So I still stack, but also now pay more for a single coin than I ever would even 5 years ago because of an evolved appreciation. I think many who started stacking in 2005 may soon be turning that same corner. Or maybe I'm just plain wrong - my wife usually thinks I am anyway.

Thanks for allowing me to ramble! image

What are being referred to as "Stackers"? Did I miss that?

Sorry, I refer to a stacker as one who simply buys PM's for PM value alone and stacks them without regard to dings, fondling, cleaning, pocketing or otherwise abusing the metal - simply stacking the ounces of metal, be it gold, silver or any other PM.

I too was a stacker at first, but now have become deeply involved in collecting and selling numistatic items. All started with walking liberty half dollars buying by the roll from local B&M and reselling on ebay for a quick 25-35 dollar profit. That was back when silver was $12 an ounce.

well that about says it, btw does nayone out there listen at all to Bod Dylan or even understadn what he is saying anymore. drugs......your brain on a hot frying pan. >>

The secret to understanding Bob Dylan was to keep up with what was happening in his life at any given time. That is what he usually wrote songs about. But what can you say about the man that introduced the Beatles to drugs. No wonder he is considered one of the biggest influences in music in the 20th Century.

    Hello,

He did not introduce them to "drugs" - they were doing Preludin, Bennies and so on, perhaps Mandrax (or was that Syd?), in Germany, along with a little marijuana, the drug Dylan "introduced" them to about two years later.

    Best wishes,
    Eric

People become interested in coins in many ways.... certainly stacking could engender such interest. The 'collector syndrome' may be one of the most common mental afflictions in humanity. (I call it an affliction, for some it becomes a disorder.) Numismatics is just one facet of the issue. Cheers, RickO

I tend to agree with this reasoning, however, there's a chance that an equal number of newer Silver Stackers will become frustrated and feel burned by the aftermath of a popped bubble in PMs,
and never want to see another coin again
