I like the $20 St. Gaudens.
Walking Liberty half a close second.
    Buffalo nickel third.

John Mercanti (retired chief engraver, U.S. Mint) is working on a book that will be published later this year,
and in it he discusses several examples of what he considers strong coin/medal design. Interesting insight
from someone who's "been there and done that"!

    Draped Bust Cent
    Sacagawea Dollar (2000-2008)

    Not in any particular order...

Pine Tree Shilling, Large Planchet, Noe-1 (early American design at its finest; a coin that grabs your attention no matter what you collect)

Fugio (gotta love the double meaning of "Mind Your Business")

Chain Cent (some said Liberty looked a fright, but I think she looked just like Liberty in the late 1700s should look)

    Walking Liberty Half Dollar

    St. Gaudens $20

    Indian Head Eagle

    Turban head gold

New England Shilling (beauty = simplicity)

Myddelton Token (Ok, I'm stretching it a bit here, but the coin was designed specifically to entice settlers to Kentucky)

I'll have to put some thought into number 10...

Tough question to fill all 10 slots but I will give it a shot. A few are very easy choices....

    1. Mercury Dime
    2. Walking Liberty Half Dollar
    3. Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle "No Motto" with Roman Numerals Ultra High Relief/High Relief
    4. Standing Liberty Quarter
    5. Indian Head Quarter/Half Eagles & Indian Head "No Motto" $10 Gold
    6. Buffalo Nickel
    7. Indian Head Cent
    8. Heraldic Eagle Reverse Coinage from 1800-1807(depending on denomination)
    9. 1836-1839 Gobrecht Dollars
    10. 1853 Seated w/Arrows at Date and Rays Around Eagle Quarter & Half Dollar

I did not consider modern bullion stuff or modern commems or classic commems.
If considering patterns and commems etc, then I would like the following as well:
    11. 1836 Gold Dollar (J-67)
    12. 1874 Bickford Eagle1907 Indian Head Double Eagle (J-1905)
    13. Oregon Trail Memorial Half Dollar (1926-1939)

I also find the FUGIO CENTS(especially the American Congress Pattern), CONTINENTAL CURRENCY and the 1792 Disme to be super duper cool. image

While it is hard not to have the St. Gaudens 20 and the WLH in there, I think there are some very well designed commems-

Illinois- not just because of the Lincoln portrait, but the eagle reverse may be the best ever on a US Coin

    Oregon- just a terrific coin

The California Pacific Internation (San Diego)

Bay Bridge- I like it - suppose others would include this

I like the Buffalo Nickel and the $10 Lib and SLQ and probably the 1853 arrows and Rays Seated half

No order on these- I left out patterns- otherwise patterns would be on here too

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

One of my favorite coin designs is the obverse of the Pan-Pac $2 1/2 gold commemorative coin---Ms Liberty riding on the back of a hippocampus while holding a caduceus.

    In no order:

    Buffalo Nickel / $50 gold
    Walker Half / ASE
    $10 Indian
    $20 Saint / 2009 UHR
Peace Dollar - esp the 1921
    Merc Dime
    Flowing Hair Half
    Standing Lib Quarter
    Barber Half
    Capped Bust Half

..... And, very strange, so far Peace Dollars are outnumbering Morgans 3 to 1. Who wouldda thunk it?
