Tougher set hole filled - my Toned Peace set 1921 in place

So my long term goal is to put together a full toned set of the Peace dollars. The key dates will be tough as certain dates you just dont see toned but this week I filled one of the tougher ones. I have only seen 2 other 1921s that would fit my personal tastes for what I want my set to be and this one was the one I like the best and luckily had the chance to aquire it. I had originally decided I would just splurge and go with a really nice MS65 for the 1921 (since i a modest drecky) due to that fact that you dont see many toned but once I saw this one it was a no brainer. Paid a premium over book but I do not care at all for this one. Big thanks to KryptoniteComics

LOL..I like the vampire analogy you guys have brought up. I will have to think if a good name for the coin around that.

The L was described as a porbably wire strike thru which seems to be what it looks like to me too but I am no expert in that.

    Love it.

Is that a strikethrough next to the L?

Beautiful coin. Are you going to cross it so it will go in a Registry set?

I am not a registry-er but I would certainly love to either have it in an NGC * holder which Im not sure why it doesnt already have one considering its a new holder...or into PCGS plastic, but if DH thinks ALL Peace dollar toners are AT then what would they think of a purple 21 lol

I believe it is a wire strike thru

Very nice and I admire your ambition. Finding toned Peace dollars is hard enough on an individual basis... Going for a whole set is wild!!!
Please keep sharing the progress... Thanksimage

I also thought about bidding on that ... i had it on my watch list ...
    I def. like it.

    Congratulations on acquiring!!

    I have a toned PCGS graded 1923 ... a pretty common date ...

If I go to sell it, you will be the first to know ... since I think this might look good in your Toned Peace Dollar Collection ...

  • Thats a real nice 1921 there. As far as not having a star that designation is meaningless. Completely subjective. the coin is the same whether its got a star or not. Enjoy it.

It is a gorgeous coin. As I said across the street, I am glad that it went to a fellow forum member (I was the underbidder). For whatever it is worth, I think you did very well on this piece. If you can get it into a star holder (I question why NGC failed to award one previously), then I think it is better to have it in a NGC star holder than a PCGS holder. Regardless, it's a great coin that will carry its weight regardless of what holder it is in.

Of course, you sold it. You have an amazing ability to pick up some of the finest toned pieces available. Whenever I find a toner on eBay that I like a lot, 9 out of 10 times, I click on it and it links to one of your auctions (which I check regularly).

NGC is extremely tough on spots (however minor) when awarding star designations. I wouldn't waste
a lot of money trying to get one on that coin. It is very pretty, though. image

  • Coin in hand today. no dissapointment whatsover. Opposite in fact as the luster on it surpasses the pics that emphasize color. Pleasant surprise that isnt apparent in the pics is a beautiful electric pastel mint green in the hair. hit on the rim is minute and barely catches the eye as it is a soft hit. Thatks again Shane.
