NEWPs Seated Half and Barber Quarter - Opinions?

Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 11,467 ✭✭✭✭✭
Every once in a while the small monthly show here in Melbourne surprises me.
Both of these were from the same dealer, who generally specializes in bullion-related items, so I rarely glance in his cases.
I could not resist either of these, being somewhat better dates and what I thought were nice, original pieces.
Decided to share multiple shots with the forum to see what you thought (I liked the various views, so sorry if anyone is dialing up):

Can't tell if there's any luster left?? Really like their originality!! I'll say 45 on both, AU50ish if the luster is there and muted in the pics.

I don't know about seated material, but I think the 13-D quarter would go AU50 (R-3)

    Nice work

Nice. There is some luster on that seated half so that might get it an AU50 grade. It is nicer than XF45 imo.

Id go XF-45 and possibly AU50+on the 1859 if it has some underlining luster. Like the crust factor!

53 shot 55 on the half and probably a 55 on the quarter- terrific coins

As others said, if there's luster left on these coins, to me, they appear to be no problem attractive type coins for the grade.

Thanks all. Spending time over the years on this forum has definitely helped me develop my 'eye' and become a more selective buyer.

As for my grade opinions, in hand they both have AU detail, but I think the muted luster would likely keep them at XF45, which is where I and the dealer were comfortable. But don't ya wish all XF45's looked like that?

Love them both, they are original and unmeshed with, they show off those layers of history yet maintain good eye appeal. Nice job!

I think they both score a "10" for originality and grade AU50.
