I bought a whole slew of Mint State Lincolns over the past few days ... I am preparing a big batch to send to PCGS. This might be one of my favorite new pickups ...
This is raw ... not positive PCGS will grade this one, but thought I would roll the dice. I love the detail on the obverse. I imagine if the Mint made Matte Proofs in 1917, the obverse might look something like this one. I like that it was only $90 (so not very much at risk).

Great coins. Have you purchased from this seller before? I love all your posts of pics but GSC has a questionable reputation. Do a quick search in previous threads.
<< <i>This is another 1957-D I bought last year. It's in an NGC MS67 slab and PCGS would not cross this at grade so I left it in the NGC slab.
>>
Boy I miss that coin . IMO I feel the 67 grade is well deserved and was one of the reasons I sent it in. It's twin graded a 66 and while nice it wasn't as colorful.
<< <i>I don't think I have ever seen such a great group of coins. That 1923 is superb. I have some nicely toned ones also. I will have to take some pix. >>
golfer72, do post some pix of your toned coins!!!
And thanks for the comment on the 1923 ... I totally agree.
This just looks like a monster to me and is the kind of coin that I live for (well maybe not live for, but at least makes my heart beat faster).
<< <i> Boy I miss that coin IMO I feel the 67 grade is well deserved and was one of the reasons I sent it in. It's twin graded a 66 and while nice it wasn't as colorful. >>
djdilliodon, thanks for that comment (you must be the person that sold me this coin) ... I never can tell from the cryptic screen names!
I actually plan on submitting this back to PCGS in my next batch. I will allow PCGS to drop this to MS66 (which is apparently where they want to grade it). But I am still hoping it might sneak in at MS67 with their 2nd look at it (but I am not holding my breath).
Copper coins always seem to drop 1 grade (on average at least) when going from NGC to PCGS. I have had a few cross at grade and a few cross 2 grades down ... but the most prevelent cross is 1 grade down. PCGS must be more strict on copper coins (Lincolns at least) than NGC.
I can't help losing the NGC 67 star slab (I am sure some here don't get that and think I must be nuts) I have to ask for forgiveness because I am addicted to out-of-the-slab TrueView photos. (A junkie). The good news is PCGS always returns the old NGC labels to me after a crossing (this really is a blessing ...Thank you PCGS for that consideration!) So I can always give/show the old higher grade NGC label to anyone that I might sell this coin to in the future. (Though I rarely if ever sell anything)
Wingedliberty, LasVegas Teddy, Erickso1, DjDillion, DbeMike..... great additions to the thread.
DbeMike - I've been watching your registry for several years. Though we have slightly different personal tastes I love your coins DJDilliodon - that 57D is fantastic.
WingedLiberty, if you're going to cross that 57D 67RB*, and allow a drop in grade, then why don't you break it out and just send it in naked? PCGS will grade that coin of that date/mm 99% of the time unless they feel there's environmental damage from being in the mint set and I see nothing to indicate there is. I've only made one 67RB lincoln, but I"ve made lots of 66BN's and they've all gone in naked.
There are coins I leave in the holder and try to cross but I do that when I think there's a good chance PCGS won't grade it because of the color, and I don't want it stuck outside of a holder.
Coppercolor
Edited: because "66RB" reminded me that I had made a 55S Lincoln in PCGS67RB
Mitch, thank you for helping me find this thread last night (sarcasm).
OT: Kudos to Lauren - yesterday the Spivacks were in my office and Lauren had a grading test on two Morgans - she was perfect on both coins. More tests next time you're here.
I have zero encapsulated cents. But I have an incredible range of them in flips with varying degrees of color. Here are two (with not so great photos, pardon me!):
I'd be more than happy to. But that 1957-D is by far my favorite of the lot I went through. I'll post some more photos tomorrow of some other cents that I have that I admire and that I think you will enjoy. How about some chocolate brown 1953s? Not everyone is a fan of the straight on solid brown, but with that cartwheel luster, I think they look amazing!
I know some people complained about the dealer I bought this coin from, but I think it really looks great in hand. I really think it's going to grade. I shot both of these photos with my iPhone, the top one is a bit dark, and the bottom one I laid the coin on a PCGS-graded 1935-D just for a coin to coin comparison of the color and luster. I think this 1917 will grade somewhere around MS65RB. But I will know definitively in about a month.
Wonderful coin. The toning in front of the face is mesmerizing, almost a silhouette. And I stick by my assertion that it's undergraded. Not that an extra grade point will amount to much.
Another new TrueView photo that just came in. This is a top population 1935-D Lincoln in the BN color category. There are only 3 MS65BN's known, and no BN's higher.
