Got my packs today, I did one of everything baseball. No stars showing anywhere.

I opened the 2001 traded -- can anyone tell me what to look for, besides Pujoles or Ichiro?

Ummm... isn't that also a Rickey Henderson on the back of the 1981 Topps Rack? Nice! image

I received my packs today and opened my two Hockey packs. The first pack wasn't sealed.
The second pack I found these two back to back.

    Yay me!!!

The centering isn't too great, but the subject
    matter is awesome!!

I'll post my cellos and my other rack pack later
but I had to get this one up now.

I opened my two packs of 86 FB and found 11 cards the same in the same sequence.

Here is the complete sequence of my two packs.

Can any one add to this sequence or know the sequence surrounding the Rice, Montana and Young cards?

The beginning of pack 1 might be off a little but pack 2 is good.

    Popped both 82 FB Cellos

A pretty sweet Ronnie Lott. My scanner stinks and doesn't do the card justice. Really nice centering with some of the usual printing marks. I'd guess a 9

Still have the 84FB Cellos and 83 Baseba;; Cellos to go later

This has brought back some memories. The stale smell of the gum, the fresh cardboard, eagerly looking through packs. I have popped thousands of these but it's been years and years since I opened an unopened pack. Good to know there is a reliable source out there as these were really clean. Just another reason I'm glad I joined this forum

  • Exactly why I rarely gamble...purchased (2) 81 FB wax, (2) 83 BB Cello, (2) 82 FB Cello, (1) 84 FB Cello = $70 of fire starter.

I pulled an O/C Boggs Rookie and an O/C 2nd year Montana.

At least I left some for the rest...Good Luck!!

Edited to add: Thanks for setting this up...the anticipation was worth it

Besides the Bench/Garvey rack pack, I did
get these two flip side cellos.

All-in-all, I'm very happy with my packs. Thanks
to Mark for the idea and the work, and thanks to
Steve and his staff for finding some great
unopened material for us to have fun with.

I opened everything except for one '81 BB rack pack which has a Tim Raines RC showing on the back. One of the '84 FB racks had LT showing on the front but I ripped it anyway. Got an Elway RC (maybe an 8, likely a 7), and a Montana (8). '81 BB yielded a nice Rickey Henderson and a few other decent cards. '82, '83, and '01 BB were a bust. Nothing amazing, but a fun rip.
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

The 83's yielded nothing until the 2nd to last card...which was one of the nicest Ripkens I've seen

The 84's were really clean and it seems like the stars I got were the nicest. I got a Dickerson, Roger Craig, and the one I'm most interested in is a Walter Payton that is gorgeous. This is a notoriously tough card to get in high grade.

I will be submitting a total of 5 cards:
    The 82 Lott
    The 84 Craig
    The 84 Payton
    The 84 Dickerson
    The 83 Ripken

I am always disappointed by what I get back from PSA, so I will try to not be too optimistic, but it's hard to find much wrong with these 5. I'll be disappointed if I don't get a 10

Thanks so much to everyone, that was a blast. I'll post what I get back from PSA

Again, scanner doesn't do the card justice, but centering is sharp and no real smudging...2 things that plague this card

I finally ripped something from a group rip in about a year. I opened (2) 84 and 86 Topps FB cellos. Overall, I was pretty happy with the cards.

A very nice Bradshaw and Largent

The Young is O/C T/B but the Reggie is decently centered. It may have a shot at a 9.

Thanks for sharing your results all. Lookslike there were some solid hits and for a handful, not so good.
  • This break has really been a good one. Some great pulls and packs/racks with stars showing. One of the better ones in a long time.

Well, okay, since this fell off the front page,
and while we wait for the mailman to arrive
today, here are two more cellos from yesterday.

I only ordered two 1983 cellos and both came
with "Super Veteran" cards on top. So,
in addition to the Bench/Garvey rack, and the
Gossage and Dawson back cellos, I got these
Phil Niekro and Don Sutton top packs.

Sorry for the quality of the pics on this one.

  • OK, time to share a little. Was a blast ripping most of the stuff, left some un-opened(very tough to do, afterall they did put them in packs to be opened)image. I got a few cello's that have stars on the front or back. I did buy 2 packs of all the baseball, and football offered. Here is some pics. Both the 82 Topps football cellos, remain sealed, one has Phil Sims on the front, the other some guy Named Walter Payton on the back. Couple of picks of some of the nicer cards. The baseball was loaded with minty fresh stars and commons. Mark

    Mark,

Great hits. The Dickerson and Marino rookies are very nice. You also got some sweet cellos with stars on top and bottom.

I can't believe how many Marino/Elway rookies have been pulled already.

BTW, I really love your Cesar Geronimo 81 Cello. image

Just received my cards today, 2 packs each of 2001, '81, '82, '83 Topps.

I have some pretty good luck with the 2001 baseball. Last group rip, I pulled a Gold Pujols rookie and this time I pulled the Pujols/Ichiro. Definitely looks good! I'll post scans tomorrow sometime.

With the other 6 packs, the best I pulled was an '83 Rose.

I enjoyed the rip and thank you for putting this together.

I haven't read every word on the last few pages, but if not one has mentioned the 79 OPC packs.
I bought 2. One had Ryan on the back and will remain unopened. The other was awful! Only one card was not ruined by the gum.

    Leave your 79 OPC unopened.

Have not checked the rest of the thread cause I don't want to douse my sky-high hopes of getting some lil darlings, but I just got around to opening my package to check my '82 fball cellos and '84 fball racks for stars t/b. Without even opening I'm pretty happy as I found this:

Alot of great results from this rip. I don't remember any other group rip with this many stars ontop, on back and inside...Congrats to all image

Wow, Steve must have bought a collection where the original owner set these to the side. Very, very nice. So many Marino's and Elways showing up on breaks and star/rookies front and back. I cant wait to get mine. The way things are going, I'll have a Marino on front of each of my racks, a Fernando on front of my 81 racks and a Ozzie on the back of my 79 OPC pack. I'll probably pull a Pujols Gold rookie also!

I'm a bit late to the party but I finally had a chance to look more closely at my packs and I received a few pretty nice packs from this break as well. One of my '82 Cellos has a Pete Rose in action on the back and a Graig Nettles in action on the front. My two '78 OPC packs had Steve Garvey and Pete Rose record breaker on the backs.
