When Bryce Harper hits HR#1. What happens to the ball?

If it's caught by a fan?

Is there a market for 1st home run balls or will this maybe start a new trend? I hope he gets it back or it lands in a bullpen.

Hopefully whoever it is gets some $ from it to help out his family and does not pull a Christian Lopez.
  • Based on this auction, I'm sure his first HR ball will be worth thousands.

Lopez ended up doing quite well from what I recall.

Classic reason why you need to read the description before buying a item. I don't know how many time I see Mint 9 then click to see a (oc) image

Ha! It sold just after I typed out the above. Really a Uribe hit ball and ticket stub $1,500?? Really??

I think his first home run ball could bring 25K plus easy.

    It doesn't get thrown back

    << <i>If it's caught by a fan?? >>

    Opposed to being caught by......?

    << <i>Is there a market for 1st home run balls....? >>

I'm sure someone would be happy to own a first HR ball by Mickey Mantle or Kevin Maas

If first HR balls are your thing, go collect them. I would prefer 3rd home run balls, I just like the number

I suppose and that the the fan that just spent $300 for tickets, parking, food, alcohol who happened to catch it gets his first HR jersey, bat and shoes.

<< <i>or it lands in the bullpen? >>

I'm sure every fan loves it when HR balls land in the bullpen

If he does live up to the hype...and many years from now....it will be worth quite a bit.

    Harper himself will want it

    at least 50-100k

The only markers are whem mlb places a dna marker on ball...such as for 500 hr balls.

I know harper is a real hype...to mantle ...but how could mlb place markers for every single 1st possible hr????

The holder of the 1st hr ball had better get it verified by the team asap...and before he leaves the park.
    Hopefully caught on camera.

If it were me I would ask security right away to take me to harper and ask if he would sign it as his 1st hr.
I bet he would no problem.

If nothing is verifiable....you will have 10 balls on ebay as his first.

He's the kid who swings like Mantle.

I hope Frank Gifford catches Harpers 1st HR ball.

If you took that first HR ball to Harper on that same day, I bet the staff would try and confiscate it. I would trade it for $25K and 50 signed balls with an inscription, something showing it was a swap for the first HR ball, something unique.

I agree with you. The hype surrounding Harper (and milestone homerun balls in general) is just crazy and turns people into greedy animals. This is why I'd like to see it caught by a kid or land in a bullpen, bounce off the foul pole, or other similar scenario. I remember the Bonds homerun chase turning some fans into savages.

200K plus rolling on the ground would turn me into a savage too.
