What a code 80? Its on a new slab style not old.

Here is a 1872 proof cent in a genuine slab with code 80. Whats that mean?

Edited to say I read the Don Willis post about 80 being a old code not used anymore but this is a new slab. Does that mean it was just reholdered?

maybe someone sent in an old code 80 for "tru-view or regrade" and they kept the label to reuse???
    will code 80's be collectable???

If I recall correctly it was only a couple years ago that PCGS started holdering coins as Genuine. At first you had to pay quite abit and it was designed for expensive but problem coins. You had to request this option. The coins were holdered as genuine and not gradeable with the code 80. There was no option for the reason code on these.

Not too long after this PCGS started holdering problem coins as regular course of grading and when they dropped the generic 80 code and started including the reason codes.

The last I heard is that PCGS is now including a details grade to the genuine holders.

Three different progressions of the genuine holder in the last couple years. Before that a genuine holder was not an option and all you got was a "body bag" with no explanation.

I just looked closer at the photo and see what you were asking. This cent is in the new prong holder. I did not realize that one could keep the insert on a re-holder.
