I'm thinking. I'm thinking. I have a drilled 90% silver Rosie, but I think a dollar(one)plus the check would be fair. I think I would still lose because of the postage stamp that would have to be afixed to the envelope.

Recently, I was able to cancel my private health insurance policy thanks to rejoining the work force. In so doing,
I was able to eliminate one of, if not the, biggest single monthly expense I had - but I digress.
In the cancellation of the policy, I was due a prorated refund on my premium. I love getting free money, I can buy... well, pretty much nothing with this refund!
Given the size of the monthly premium, I figure that to be a refund on about 11 minutes of my monthly policy!
sell it on eBay.

The processing just to cut that check had to cost them well in excess of 70 cents.
Back in the early 80s, I was doing field service work at Rockwell international, they had a paper tape punch that needed repair.
I told them our company prices ($80/hr + any parts that were needed + $0.35 per mile travel). Estimated them about $100 for a service call.
The lady in purchasing laughed at me and said it costs them over $100 to process a payment through the AP department.
I assume our now highly computerized society has dropped that significantly, but there are still people involved in the process,
I'd guess they spent at least $50 to send me that 70 cents.

I had some student loans that I paid on for 7 and 10 years. When it came time to make the last payments on these loans I tried an experiment. I wrote final checks that were $0.01 short of the final payment due and sent them in. I wondered if the lender would cash the checks or return them. They were cashed. I then wondered if I would receive phone calls or letters from the lender's collection department seeking to cause me to pay up and pay off the remaining cent owed under each of the loans (four of them).
Never heard a word from anyone.

Now you know what everyone pushes for direct deposit. I personally have issues with it however. I prefer paper trails.
