Should I cross these 2 coins to PCGS???

I have a 1955 Double Die Cent in an old ANACS AU55 holder and a 1802/1 Dollar in an old ANACS VF20 holder. If I send both to PCGS the penny will probably drop to a XF40 or 45 and I think the Dollar will not make VF20. Should I send both coins to PCGS?? Have a look at the photos and give me your opinions. . TIA Harvey

I agree
that is pitting or ? on the $1? Would such surfaces stop a grade or prduce a gennie?

He poo poo's in his paw,and throws it in.LOL
1) Leave as-is (though, you are asking about trying, so this isn't a preferred option)
2) Submit
2.1) Submit at "any grade crossover"
2.2) Submit at "same grade minimum crossover"
3) Crack out and submit (not going to recommend this option, but it is an option
Given the values, and depending what else you have that may go in, I would likely try option 2.2 first. If it works out for you, then you have no worries.
If they don't, then you can try option 2.1
Worst case scenario, in either situation, is that they remain in the current holders.
If you got really ballsy and confident, and 2.2 didn't work out, you could try option 3....and hope you didn't miss anything that they find because, if so, you have some raw (or "GENUINE" slabbed) coins on your hands that will be harder to move later on than where they currently sit.
Unless I am missing something in the pictures of the bust dollar....I like its odds for crossover and would submit as such.
The Lincoln, from the pics, for me, is a tough call and that is why I would do option 2.2 above as it is "only" another $30ish or so (shipping, etc) and if you submit with other coins, the shipping and handling fees get spread out more.
From a future salability standpoint, the older holders are cool, but the PCGS holdering would probably add value. CAC doesn't even currently do the ANACS holders, so you can't even add value that way.
Heck, I just went through the same question you posed with a few of my own coins, but they were much lesser coins (nicely toned, lower MS grade, morgans). I wanted future confidence if I ever do go to sell them and that started to outweigh my "enjoyment" of having them in the older ANACS slabs like you show.
Nicest thing about them in the older holders though.......I got them relatively cheap from the sellers at local coin shows/B&Ms...if they had been PCGS, they would have been at least double. Guaranteed as I know those guys.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Me too.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
OR, if I was selling them, PCGS plastic would bring a slight premium.
If either of these does not come into play for you then keep them as is.
That`s my 2cents

I think the dollar is a VF-20 in any holder, although your photos make it look slightly granular, so..... who knows?

well received on Ebay. Very nice coins, I would feel mighty proud to have either.

If you're planning on selling them, then consider crossing. I think the dollar is solid but the DDO may drop to XF45.
Lance.
Please don't just do it because you are caught up on a companies internet board.
If you hang out at a different companies site and all they drinkers there talk about
their companies brand of plastic being the cat's meow would you be talking about crossing them there ?
If that's the case find an ANACS board and find total tranquility.
I play the crackout / crossover game to win, not lose.
Reason? Then the PCGS oslabbed coins would probably garner a sticker as well thus the double certification will make the coins more saleable.
Also, the 55/55 is iffy in that it MIGHT be toned covering an old cleaning. Why? It looks a little splotchy. But that is speculation at this point based solely on picture.
if they do cross, the 55/55 will suffer minimal price drop as there price compression between AU-50 to AU-58.
