A mother and daughter accused of fatally bludgeoning and stabbing Jean Greenburg, 73, last week to steal her coin collection are expected to have their preliminary hearings next month in Las Vegas Justice Court.
However, the mother, Lourie Rodriguez, 46, was not arraigned today at the urging of her attorney, Special Public Defender David Schieck, who said Rodriguez was on medication, so he didn’t think she understood what was happening in court.
Rodriguez’ daughter, Amber Hall, 26, was arraigned on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon of a victim over age 60, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder. Hall’s attorney, Deputy Public Defender Kristine Kuzemka, said Hall waived her right to a preliminary hearing within 15 days.
Justice of the Peace William Jansen set Rodriguez’s arraignment for 7:30 a.m. May 10. The judge set Hall’s preliminary hearing for 8:30 a.m. June 5 and said Rodriguez’s preliminary hearing would probably be set for the same time. They are each being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
Police said two friends of Greenburg found her dead Friday night in her home in Pinewood Apartments, 3601 Cambridge St. , near Desert Inn Road and South Maryland Parkway.
The police report said Greenburg, an avid coin collector, had been beaten and stabbed to death while sitting in a recliner. An autopsy report said she had been stabbed numerous times and had multiple blunt force injuries to her head.
Detectives said they arrested the women after they had seen activity on Greenburg’s bank account the night after she was found dead. They said they used ATM security video to track Rodriguez and Hall.
After her arrest, Hall told investigators that she and her mother were frequent visitors of Greenburg, who lived alone and owns many valuable U.S. coins, police said.
Hall said that last Thursday night, April 26, she took her 3-month-old son along on a visit with her mother to see Greenburg with the intention of killing her, according to the police report.
Hall said they brought along a knife and a large piece of wood, which she concealed in the baby stroller, the police report said.
Hall reportedly said Rodriguez beat Greenburg in the head with the piece of wood while the older woman was sitting in the recliner, police said. Hall said Rodriguez also stabbed Greenburg in the neck with the knife, then put on rubber gloves and stole coins from the home, the police report said.
Hall said the two women went to a pawn shop and sold the stolen coins for about $2,000, the police report said.

She has not aged well (one can only hope that she and the daughter will fare even worse in jail).

Didn't seem to affect her ability to understand how to murder a woman and steal from her.
Grand pappy told my pappy back in my day son
A man (woman in this case) had to answer for the wicked that he'd done

The pawn shop should have asked some up front questions before accepting the coins, that and they are not to smart accessing an ATM after killing that old lady.

<< <i>I can't imagine what kind of live you need to live to look like that at 46. >>
Likely a steady diet of meth and cigaretts for the last 20+ years.
Sick, just sick!!!
This is why it's important to not trust folks who have no obvious work ethic. They will steal from you and feel entitled to do so. Vultures and wolves.
Not to disparage vultures and wolves...
As a side comment it's not that easy to just go get a job anymore and even with jobs these two might have done the same crime.

They obviously don't have a complete brain between the two of them.
So sad that a life was simply wasted over $2,000. Hopefully justice will prevail and these two will wake up to the seriousness of their crime.
The name is LEE!

On the contrary, I hope they get some education in prison on the value of life and person responsibility since I'd really hate having to support these two bozo's through taxes for the next 40 years.
It's really a simple concept.

<< <i>Ugly and stupid.... no cure for stupid...These sub-humans should be summarily executed...Too bad about the kid, but maybe he will have a chance now that these two will be out of his life. Cheers, RickO >>
Too flippin right Ricko , one thing the Chinese do have right is people like these two get a 5c bullet in their otherwise empty head each , end of story.

<< <i>Bring back "capital punishment" in all fifty states !!! >>
Actually Nevada does have the death penalty; however, the Supreme Court of Nevada struck down the use of the electric chair under the Eighth Amendment's prohibition against cruel and unusual punishment. The Nevada Supreme Court was clear that death sentences were still valid and that the sentence could still be imposed, but the Nevada state legislature would need to come up with a new method (the electric chair was the sole method previously). I don't think the legislature has acted, but it will probably be re-implemented given the outcry that resulted in light of the court's decision.

Any way of killing them works for me!
