Ripping '76

I am going to rip 10 1976 Topps Baseball Wax Packs tonight. Does that interest anyone enough to even post the results?

I have been having real bad luck opening 1969/1970 cellos the past few months. So I figured the risk/reward ratio was more balanced with the '76 packs. I really like that year. The rookie quotient is just not there, though.

If you choose not to rip I am looking for 16 packs (1974 leftover wrappers) to complete a full wax box.

Otherwise, have fun. Definitely post the results.

Nikklos, that isn't really a question. Even I know the answer. Post away!!!

BTW, I have my list of 1970 Topps raw cards I'm looking for. If you send me a PM, I will reply with the list. Thanks.

Sure thing Mike. I just sent a PM but I never had success before sending/receiving pms. But I just clicked on something in my profile that may do the trick.

I know there were others who expressed interest in PM'ing about the 1970 cards. Please try now.

I got your PM, but I can't reply to yours. If you go to your profile, you need to click the private message button. You should see a lock by the glasses if it is activated.

And every possible star card! 76's, I'm excited. And I thought I was quite frivolous ripping 5 81's a couple days ago!

I would've loved this pack as a kid. My favorite pulls were all star and all star rookie cards
  • Disco Danny Ford is one of the tougher cards in the set. That one looks nicely centered. Is the bottom left corner slightly touched?

Actually Dan's corner looks good. Thanks! I love to hear about the lo POPS

So the best of the bunch are Dan Ford, Buddy Bell Father Son, Leon Roberts Traded and Mickey Rivers (my favorite Yank growing up).

  • The last time I checked the population reports on Ford, no psa 10's and 14 psa 9s.

Give this article a read before you continue ripping. That's everything you need to know about the set. Johnny Briggs is the tough one of the set (I think).

    Great rip!!
  • gemintgemint Posts: 6,066 ✭✭✭✭✭
Briggs is a tough one as is the Ford. The Ford usually has print streaks on the upper left of the card. If the print is clean and corners are sharp, I think that's around a $100 card or more in PSA 9. Centering looks pretty good on those. I opened a box about 10 years ago and 90% of the cards were cut with a tilt. Several were miscut.

By the way, this is one of my favorite sets and the first I collected as a kid. I remember getting a Honus Wagner card and wondering why an old card of that funny looking guy was in my pack. LOL.

Great first pack!!! I liked Quick Mick too. Great guy to meet in person too from what I hear.

You're only supposed to rip the packs with stars and valuable rookies in them. Commons-only packs should stay sealed
