Ever find a gold coin while roll searching?

Batman23Batman23 Posts: 4,999 ✭✭✭✭✭
If not then heres your chanceEbay auction link.

Three coins visible from a single shotgun roll. One coin being gold, one silver and one brass. Still listed as wheat/indian cent roll. Something smells fishy here...

Currently at 66 views and $310. It will be interesting to see where bidding ends for this one.

Looks like there COULD be a 185x dollar gold coin behind that token, but I would rather bid on a gold coin that I know actually is a gold coin.

My guess, the "roll" contains one subway token, one cull seated dime, one severely damaged gold dollar, a few low grade indian cents, and the rest common wheaties.

Maybe the "gold coin" is one of those plated Indian cents you used to see a lot in jewelry.

People are SO stupid, it's not even funny. How does this guy even KNOW there's Indian and/or wheat pennies inside if he hasn't searched them??

Heck that token in brass might be the pick of the litter. I thought they were only made in
    nickel. It might be unique!

Well it's obviously a gold dollar under that token. Could be counterfeit who knows. Interesting but what would make anyone bid so much is beyond me.

My most exotic find was when I found a 3 Cent Nickel in F 12 or F 15 while going through a friend's roll of Mercury Dimes.

Amazing feedback , it's difficult under even ideal circumstance to keep as many ebayers satisfied , but this seller makes it look like a walk in the park.

Ah, just a little bit of math and a scale will tell you if this roll is worth keeping without even opening it.

This looks like a classic so-called unsearched roll, but I though lotteries were illegal on ebay.

Man it sure is a good thing that token has a hole in the center, otherwise the seller may have sold his unsearched roll too cheap.image

I think you're right. Looks like an 185x $1 Liberty Head Type 1 circulated. But unless it has a mint mark,it is nowhere near the value of the current bid.

  • You do not want to deal with this seller ever! I just sent him an honest question asking if it would be possible to post a picture of the trunk that he supposedly got all these unsearched rolls from. He sent back 2 emails, first saying it was a "bizarre question". Then sent me a 2nd email with the most paranoid defensive language that I have ever gotten from anybody on the entire internet.Needless to say he never sent me a picture of the trunk. Gee whiz,I wonder why! I responded that he would never have to worry about hearing from me again.

This is the first thing that came to my mind. If they are truly unsearched, then the rolls could contain modern circulated copper plated zinc Lincoln Memorial Cents that are effectively worthless.

I got a 3 Cent Nickel in change in the 70s, it was passed as a dime at some point and then was passed to me as a dime.

I suspect that the odds of finding a one dollar gold piece behind a see through token in a roll of unsearched pennies are far greater than finding a 1909SVDB in BU with a bunch of '40's and '50's wheaties as the other 49 coins.

Think about it.Would a collector not open this roll and leave it "unsearched" so they can sell it on ebay for big money?

I enjoy seeing auctions like this one. Even more, I enjoy reading the FB from stupid moronic dumb bass buyers that think they're going to get a bargain/get one over on the seller.

In situations such as this one, no buyer protection should be available. Rather, a required course for buyers of merchandise like this, that complain they have been wronged, on How Not to be an Idiot.

    Edited to add:

No, I have not found a gold coin while roll searching. image

$470.85 ???????????????? Who is the fool? The seller knows exactly what is in the roll. I find it hard to digest that someone would actually buy these things at alll, let alone throw away $470.85 on a roll that is probably worth $15. Totally amazing.

You can make your own shotgun rolls with this, so those rolls could have been made yesterday or today. You can no longer trust shotgun rolls to be bank wrapped.
