Jinx86Jinx86 Posts: 3,710 ✭✭✭✭✭
Ive had this piece for a short time, bought knowing its issues but the price was more then right. It aches me to look at it and think it could get worse, so im here asking is this piece with having conserved and who is best to send it to.

I'd leave it alone, it's unlikely to improve in appearance by "doing" anything to it, IMO

Not worth the money to conserve it.

It appears the reverse is already significantly corroded and there isn't much you can do at that point. Right about now you likely think the price wasn't quite so right anymore.image

Well for $50 it makes a great type piece. I know I should easily be able get quite a bit more at resale, just didnt want to see a nice coin never get treated so it would last.

My advice, sell it on Ebay save your money and buy one you really want.

    .
it appears to be a common die marriage, so no extra value there

tough to see a coin like that with corrosion, looked like quite a beauty in its day

but for what was paid, it was a nice addition for a type coin

and a coin like this can easily get someone addicted to EAC

if you had some other coins to submit under the slow service at pcgs and you thought

this coin had unc details, it would be worth submitting but it kinda looks high au from the images

There are worse ways to spend $50. It is honest and nice; it would be good if one could rid of those greener spots - the rest is easy on the eye for what it is and $ spent IMHO.

    Best wishes,

Nothing can help the corrosion already there, the surface has sustained damage... acetone may remove some organic gunk. Cheers, RickO

You might want to soak the coin in pure olive oil for a month or so -- that might loosen up some
of the verdigris on the obverse. The reverse is beyond helping, but the olive oil might keep it from
getting worse. There is still a lot of meat on that coin, even with the corrosion. You can also show
it to a couple of copper guys at coin shows -- they might have suggestions.

Nice detailed Lg. Cent that will represent well in an album.

IMO, I wouldn't spend that money on conserving it at a conservation service. Stick it in some mineral oil for about a month. Take it out, replenish the mineral oil with fresh oil, soak it for another month, repeat X 12.
