When shipping coins from Canada to U.S., ......

What do Forum members write on any required forms for "contents/description" to enable them to get past the Canadian post office/customs smoothly?

Thanks!

I don't think it matters at all for Canadian customs. I was told by a Postal worker that packages take so long from Canada because Canadian customs is giving pay back to the US for the US's rules about items being shipped to Canada. True? I don't know. I do know since 9-11 packages take longer. Read into that what you want. By the way, I've never had to pay any tax for coins received from Canada.

When shipping overseas, and Canada, from the US I usually write "Numismatic item for collector" on the customs' form.

I've shipped hundreds of coins to US over the years. My understanding that Canadian customs are not checking the parcels, only US customs do. I usually ship Expedited to get insurance and tracking and it takes about 5-6 business days to arrive. In the description I put "Numismatic Collectible".

  • I use Numismatic Collectible, gift, with a cost of $25. Working so far for about 2 dozen packages. Only sell something that will fit Intl Priority small flat rate box at a price point that justifies the cost of the shipping which turns out to be about $13-14

In a message board discussion a number of years ago, a former Canada customs officer related that packages do get inspected from time to time and if a particular shipper is found to be marking the customs forms inappropriately, his shipments may be flagged and denied entry to Canada.
