Poppage- Very quick; but not good. Not happy. "SCANS ADDED"

The 60's and 63's were as clean as they come. Not happy about this sub at all. I couldn't believe when it popped this quick. Logged in 1 day and popped in 3.

After reviewing some of them...I'm still not very happy. The 63's are solid and the 62's they were tough on. I will scan a few of the head scratchers. There were alot more than just these. I think these were all 8's easily. Now remember these are large close up scans that enhance every flaw.

Nice turn around. Wish you were happy. Looks like some nice stuff. 1963s are very tough and looks like you had some nice ones.

Sometimes it makes you scratch your head and say what are they looking at!! I know you have a great eye for what the grades should be and it sucks when they don't come back what you thought..I also sent you a pm
  • I just had a sub pop in two days last week. 100+ 1965's that I thought were some of the cleanest raw cards I have submitted in a long time. Not one 9, the majority of the cards came back 7's. Got them back and I'm scratching my head as to why cards centered 50/50 with sharp corners couldn't at least pull 8's. Worst sub result I think I've ever had.

I will post a few scans when I get them back. The 60's and 63's I thought were extra clean. The 62's (football) are what I believe the biggest crapshoot in all of grading. The most inconsistant of all of the sets as far as grading. You never know what you are going to get. The 63's are easy to grade with the bright colors and easy to judge centering.

Agree. Those years are just a crap shoot. Ive had the worst luck over the years with 1960 FB topps personaly. Not sure what they want when I send them in. Ill buy 8s that look like 6s but I send in what looks better than that 8 and I gets 7s. 1960-1963 FB is hard to grade. But 7-8s on your sub Id be happy with. Looked like a solid sub.
  • Sent in 16 box bottoms, all cut the same size.

    8 came back PSA 9's

    8 came back Authentic.

Seems like everyone's getting the screws right now.
Hopefully there's some success stories out there.

ISTHTY, I am sure these are all lookers too

I just had two 100+ subs pop today pretty quickly, one all 60's and another all 70's (few 80's and some OPC's too)

Got a pretty consistent grader too, I think I got a fair shake of the usual imageimageimageimage

It happens.I had sent in some super clean 51 Bowman football That I thought most would come back as 7s at least.Did I get a shock when they came back(see registery).I guess it is what it is.Your grades are awesome IMO.

surprised you didn't receive more half grades.....it seems to be a cushion of comfort for the New Era.

each of my 2 most recent subs were 100 piece orders and each came home with a full 20% including the point 5.

i don't know what to make of this.....so many of my past subs have been pretty straight on and it's easy to say an 8 is an 8, a 9 is a 9, but, now i'm perplexed.

is 7.5 the new 8 or the new 7? is 6.5 the new 7 or the new 6 or the new king of the Bargain Box?

what am i supposed to do with all these "not quite good enough" or "maybe just a little better" cards? image

    consider yourself fortunate, maybe. image

Sorry to hear that. It'll be interesting to see the scans. I hope the grader of death hasn't returned. I just dropped off 1000+ cards for grading, mostly mid-70s baseball. If they slam me with a lot of 7s and 8s I'll call them to review before they ship it back to me. I pulled any card with a corner touch, worse than 60-40 centering (save for a few), any print defects and any surface bubbles or divits.
  • Same thing here, 20% of the cards came back with half grades. Never had that happen before

I wouldn't be surprised if they give fewer half grades on a raw sub just to encourage reviews for the half point bump. They have to know that reviews and crack-resubs are a healthy source of their revenue, so why not harsh all over an initial sub and goose the gravy train along? I also think some of the cause for certain subs having lots of .5s and others not is due to individual grader preference that day.

Third party grading is awesome for the hobby, there is no question about that. But it's a business as well, and they have their customers' psychology all mapped out-- and play us accordingly, lol.

When I looked through the 2 boxes...they were tight on pretty much all the cards. Not 1 tweener got a bump either. A couple of my 8's I thought were 9's for sure....but no dice.
  • hammeredhammered Posts: 2,671 ✭✭✭
I agree they were a little tough on those
I see some 8s (Davis, Randle, Horner) but I also see some with touches on 3-4 corners - those will probably stay at 7
  • All look fairly graded IMO, corner touches and print issues will keep them in 7 holders where they should be.

I think the grades are a little tough on you, yes there appear to be some cards with 3 "touched" corners, but there certainly could have been a few 7.5's in there.

I had a small sub pop the other day and was very disappointed in a couple of my grades as well. I think PSA has become a bit too strict and forgets about the half grade too often.

I was also thinking along with where are all the half grades? Some are worthy for sure.

Totally agree...there could have been a bump or two. How many different graders review the card before it is given an opinion?
