How accurate are the NGC Price guides?

I bought a $5 Indian head graded AU 55 at the local coin shop. I paid $425 and the NGC Price Guide says $528. Did I just get a screaming deal or are the prices inaccurate in the price guide?

    All price guides (PCGS, NGC, Grey Sheet, Blue Sheet, Trends, etc.) that I have used have been high in several series. There are a few areas where the prices are low, but in most cases, the prices are higher than I would expect to pay.

    most price guides price coins way too high or sometimes under price some. Use ebay, heritage, etc to get a better price

    All the coin stores here or even places online don't have AU58 $5 indians for 425 so thats a great deal!!
