I have finally made the decision to sell off my Number One Complete Mercury Dime Variety set (no band set with many FB coins). I welcome opinions on the best way to do it. Most of the coins are pedigreed A. R. Savino which could be a problem for some and a plus for others.

If you want to max-out the value of each coin, selling individually to collectors who need/want certain coins in their
collection makes the most sense. Those collectors likely have a strong demand for the piece(s) and will likely pay
accordingly. To me, auctions don't always make the most sense, especially if there are a lot of less than desirable
pieces...in this case though that doesn't seem to be much of an issue.
If you aren't in a hurry to raise cash, then selling individually over a period of time makes the most sense to me.
If you know your market, which I imagine you would know that, then advertise to those individuals. The BST would
be a good start.
You are aware of the items that I already have an interest in.
Although it will really suck to see your set go! It will really suck to see 20% of the variety collecting community dry up as well. I hope with some of the ground work you have put out there, I will be able to carry things just a little further and maybe we can grow the interest in Merc Varieties over the next couple of years...at least that's my hope.
QUITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

Having sold a complete set several years ago, I know how difficult it is to part with. In my case I was fortunate to have sold my set intact.
I would agree with previous replies that your set would likely be best sold through a couple of different venues, over a period of time. That said, you can always offer it on eBay and BST as a complete set. Then, if it doesn't sell, sell coins individually. And GREAT pics are a must.
If there are too many coins to handle at one time you could set up for 2 or 3 weeks of auctions in a row.

the popular venues, the fees have become exhorbitant. Now if you feel you have coins that would spark bidding wars due to their quality
and rarity, then offer them on the BST with a 10 day Bid with a reserve. At the end of 10 days decide how to sell the remaining coins. At
least with the BST their are no fees and you will know most of the buyers. Offer them with free shipping and or free paypal, priced accordingly
and let the buyer decide which they want--free shipping of payment via paypal.
Best of luck. A shame I have just spent the last 10 days buying 28 mercury dimes 1919 up.

I might get shot for that thinking but I am one of the people, who happens to stand by the people and who will always be for the people....even on the other side of the counter.
