Just Popped a Pop 2 1987 Classic Green Bo Jackson PSA 10!

This is a major card from the 80's(for me atleast) and I am very happy about it. I sold the first one for $1130. It took me 30 sealed boxes to get this! These cards come crappy straight out of the box. Got a few more 10's from this set but not much. I'll post a scan when I get it in.

3 PSA 9's and a PSA 8.5 on the Brett's. There are two graded 10's out there somewhere!

Thanks guys! One of my favorite cards. I think it would have sold for more if cenetering was perfect. I probably have 12 PSA 9's and some 8's, an 8.5, a 7 and an sgc 7 I just won tonight. I am going to try to get another 10..wish me luck. No Ripkens 10's from the set, just an 8.5 I think for now. It's very hard to get a 10 in this set but I will try to get some more. I have about 2 cases to work on.

This card was huge in the late 80's. I think it was around $100 mint before graded cards and that was a lot for a modern card.

Absolutely! it did reach that in 1989 1990 but then that was the time that Bo knew best!!

That card was on every kid's wish list. I remember it was a $35-$40 back then so not many of us could get it.

I hear that, I think I have about 10 raw Ripkens but none of them would make it past a 8. Those green borders are hell!

If I'd come across a display like that circa 1989 I'd need MANY rolls of Charmin.

    Very cool.

Wow, having two 10's come through your hands is something special with that card. The line-up of all of the them was simply fantastic!!! Congrats on a great collection.....

Thanks Rudedawg! I also have an sgc 7 and some more sealed sets to go thru so hoping for another PSA 10 soon
  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
I have sold the two PSA 10's in the past and purchased one back for cheaper. The 86 Traded Tiffany is pretty rare in a 10 also(and awesome too!!)

From a fellow Bo Jackson fan and eBay 87 Classic game competitor, nice cards! I popped a half dozen and haven't pulled anything remotely close to a 10.
  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
Thanks Toro! I might give up on buying the sealed boxes for now. I have a few left to bust.

Good! I think you've been driving the price up on me. image

Actually, I do have a few to submit if I can ever get my current two subs to pop.

I think I started the trend David and then a few went in the 60's and then high shipping and I stayed away from those. Good luck with your subs and when you sub please let me know what you get. I love this set!
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭
    I didn't bid when they approached $35+.

....and yes, I'll be glad to let you know what I'm submitting and what they grade.

    Thanks,

Update, sold the one I purchased back for a nice price. Also sold the Clemens pop 1 for $100. I want a Mattingly PSA 10 from this set!!!!
  • ldfergldferg Posts: 6,747 ✭✭✭
KB, I've just opened 5 of these sets and am waiting for my March sub to pop before submitting. I need to look at the Mattingly's and see how clean and centered they are. How lenient is PSA on this set? Seems like all of them have white fray on the edges.

The only 80s classic I've ever submitted was an 87 Bonds yellow/yellow when he was approaching Aaron's record and I don't remember what it looked like on the edges, but it was slightly OC and pulled a 7.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

Good luck with the price you have the one on EBAY at!!! image

  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
Thanks Dpeck! I took that one down. Was $198,700.00 too much? I made an off-ebay sale. Idferg you might get a little curve because they mostly all have tons edge problems like old OPC cards but 10's are still pretty hard to get. I think this is the only Classic issue with these problems but i have to take a look at my other sets. I just subbed an '88 Blue Mattingly and that set was pretty nice, but waiting for grades for that one and a few more '87 Green's any day now I hope.

    Any Schmidts, per chance?

There's still no PSA 10 of Schmidt #62 (the two Travel Update Schmidts are relatively easy to find)

One of the few late 1980s Schmidt cards that I've still never seen in gem condition.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Just curious what does a PSA 9 sell for?
    Hook'em
  • kingbeeswaxkingbeeswax Posts: 1,423 ✭✭✭
I have 2 PSA 9 Mike Schmidt's and there has yet to be a PSA 10. I would value them between $15-$30 and maybe more if there was a heated bidding war but that would be more for if a 10 pops. I would sell one for $20 if anyone needs?

    KB,
I just netted a Bo 10 in my last sub. Also a 6. image

Pulled a Ryan 9 and a Ripken 9 as well.

    These are a beast.

What is VCP on the Bo 10?

    Thanks,

I was just looking at the game board box of this set. Why do the cards on the box not match the cards produced for the set? Do the cards on the box exist anywhere?

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)

The box was probably made before the set was. I don't think the cards exist. I cut some out once but didn't do a great job but I have a lot of boxes to practice on.

    30 PSA 10 lot

How did this card become so easy in a 10 after years of not being?

Also what is the logic of offering so many all at once? I get that hoarding is popular but it would seem to me that you would lose a lot of interest due to the resources required to potentially win.

Someone was most likely sitting on 1,000 sets or something, had all the Bo's graded and 30 popped 10, sent them to PWCC, profit.

At $30 a pop there isn't any profit in this scenario you have laid out.

I sold to someone that said to have 40 of them last year so probably the same person. He had money to burn it seemed so probably just wanted to get rid of a few things and didn't care much about taking a loss if it was him.
