My "box of 20" idea for silver conversion is a box of 40 $20 gold pieces. Simple, easy to carry and
always convertible to food, gas, Vodka (I see you don't need more of that), women and song.

    There you go comrade!

I would go for an assortment of US gold...
Start with double eagles, a UHR, a buff, modern eagles etc... Like a type set of big US gold coins.

I would use a 'denomination method' (The finest examples of 1/2 cents through dollars) with a criteria of: 1. quality, 2. uniqueness and 3. personal preference.
My taste is pretty pedestrian. So my "dream box of twenty" would include a '56 FEC, a Mercury Dime, a Walker. For you, it may be a chain cent, a rare half dime, a reeded edge bust, etc.
I'd also include an ASE, - but it would be the '08 with the '07 reverse, so I had an example of the issue, - but with a twist of uniqueness.
I love the incuse Indians in gold, (but the two and a halves aren't large enough to fully appreciate the design work,) - so the five dollar would be my choice for that one denomination example.
    One classic commem... etc.

5 one-ounce platinum American Eagles, including one "burnished" and one proof = cost around $10,000
10 uncirculated $20 Saints and/or $20 Liberties in MS 64 or higher, get some common dates and some better dates = cost around $30,000
5 nice classic "type" coins in high grades, PCGS/CAC certified. 1909-S VDB cent, a nice CC morgan dollar, a nice bust half, $10 gold Indian, etc. = cost around $10,000

20-coin pre-1816 US (or world) type set with mid-to-high grade examples of major, highly recognizable gold, silver, and maybe one or two copper coins.

PCGS holders, preferably with all the bells and whistles, and most of the coins should be larger than a nickel.

So, for example, flowing hair dollar, bust dollar small eagle, bust dollar heraldic eagle, capped bust $5, draped bust $10, Draped bust cent, classic head cent, flowing hair half dollar, draped bust half dollar, capped bust half dollar, draped bust quarter, and maybe the equivalents in spanish colonial silver reals and gold escudos. Perhaps round out the 20 with some awesome ancients, the one with the owl, the one with the pegasus, etc...

each coin should make you go WoW, comrade image

LOL, well done, OP. Funny stuff. image

If I had 70 grr to drop on a box of 20, I'd acquire some Charlotte gold, a few CC gold pcs, a Clark & Gruber territorial gold piece or two, some nice monster Morgans, and a some St. Gaudens double eagles.

Get the good ones, that'll set ya back 50 to 70 grand.

    1) UHR PCGS MS70
    2) Common Date Morgan MS67+
    3) Saint in MS66+
    4) PR66CAM Seated 25c
    5) 1799 DB $1 AU55
    6) 1652 Pine Tree Shilling VF25
    7) 1851 LC MS65RB
    8) PF65RD CAM Indian 1C
    9) 1909-S VDB MS65RD
    10) 1955 DDO 1C MS64BN
    11) Common Date G$1 MS64
    12) Common Date PF65 CAM Morgan

For those 12, I theoretically spent about 48 grand. So you have your choice of 8 more coins with an average price of around $1800 each. That brings you to a sum total of 70k. I think it's a pretty nice mix of classic proofs and key dates and such.

Good luck to you, and thanks for the chance! image

    50 cent Barber
    $1 Bust
    $1 Seated
    $1 Trade
    $1 Morgan

  • A "year set" of St Gaudens will fill your box of 20 from 1907-1929. If you decide to finish off the set, you could put the 30-S and a 31 for your front pockets and the 32 and 33 in your back pockets. Those 4 extras shouldn't weigh you down too much when you're running from Boris & Natasha. Have fun!

I'd go with a type set of "error" coins.

    1955 DDO Lincoln cent
    1942/41 Mercury dime
    1937 3-legged Buffalo nickel (or the 1918/17-D)
    1918-17-S SLQ
    1909/8 St. Gaudens
    etc.

Plenty of overdates in the early series to pick from!

If you really have some scratch go for a 1943 copper cent as the centerpiece.

P.S. "Tanks for beeg geevaway," I see big trouble for moose and squirrel.

Self has box of 20 type pre '33. Easily within the dollar range you're talking about and sure to amaze your other comrades as well as yourself as well as those that come after you as you are not likely to sell them unless the wolf comes to the door. And, besides, they are still fun to take out and spread them out on a table and day dream about what it was like in Charlotte in 1842, or Philadelphia in 1908 or New Orleans in 1851; can you imagine, and realize that someone of some means had this in their pocket...Wellcomen zum New Country and congrats on 5000 posts.
