2011 Lincoln error

Hi Folks,

I'm new to coin collecting. Got bit by the bug a few months ago after my grandfather left a 1pd coffee can 3/4 full of old & foreign coins. I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions.

Anyway, I was going through a roll of pennies the other day and ran across this 2011. Not sure what to make of it. Hopefully I added the attachments correctly.

My first thought was struck through grease....though now I am second guessing my guess.imageimage

Wow, very nice struck thru error, most likely grease.

    Welcome and keep on searching.

Can you get more of those same BU rolls? If so, get all you can and fast.

Thanks Becky. Would the grease cause the striations that look like it was ground?

Thanks everybody. Appreciate the encouragement. After doing searches on the web for what coins to keep an eye out for, I ran down to my bank and bought 2 boxes of pennies. I also have another penny that has just a little bit of copper on the obv and full copper on the rev. I'll take pics if anybody would be interested.

strike throughs can have a grainy surface, grainier than the surrounding surfaces.

    that is common.

    yours is a great find.

post pictures of your other finds.

More unusual is the fact that both the obverse and reverse exhibit signs of being struck-through. Not an everyday occurrence.

Looking atthe 2011 it looked like die polishing. Then when you look at the whole back it's more grease filled strike. Nice find. I haven't seen anything like that on any 2009+ cent till this one.

Again, thank you all for your responses and help. Here are the pics of the '89 with missing copper (cladding?) on the obverse. On the obv pics, there is a little bit of copper at the bottom.

Cool!!! On the '89 reverse, the is a variety, of the " FG" being a reverse of an '88 reverse! I believe, it's the 'G' .Either the "G" has a Strong horizontal line or a subtle horizontal line. I'm not sure? I would look into it!image

Sorry to report that your 1989
Cent has been stripped of the
    copper layer.

It's an altered surface PMD coin,
    not an error......

The coin that tops this thread was struck through lubricant ("grease"). The form of "grease" that typically affects copper-plated Lincoln cents is smooth and at least somewhat viscous. It leaves no texture of its own, but instead preserves the original streaky appearance of the unstruck planchet.
