4SC - A Less Than Truthful and Extremely Poor Customer Service Experience

Wanted to relate a recent experience with 4SC that just did not sit right with me.

In late December/early January they posted a 1970 Topps #715 Mickey Lolich PSA 9 card on Ebay at $129.97 (or close to that price). As I have been working on a high
end 1970 set, and needed to upgrade that card I bought it.

About 2 weeks late, to my surpirse I received a PSA 7 version of this card.

I called 4SC and spoke to Tracey. She looked things up and told me that someone else had won a PSA 7 around the same time and that it appeared that the shipping got
mixed up. We agreed that she would try to contact the other buyer and get the card that was shipped to him/her in error back so that we could get things straighted out,
and that she would get back to me.

FOUR weeks went by without contact from Tracey, so I called back to check status. Tracey didn't seem to remember this situation, so we went through it again and she
said that she would try to contact the other buyer again. If unsuccessful, then she said she would issue me a refund.

Another TWO weeks went by and I had no word from Tracey and no refund in my PayPal account so I called 4SC for the third time. Surprisingly, once again Tracey had no
recollection of who I was or about this situation (AFTER THREE CALLS). So this time she looked things up and came back with a different story. Now she could find no record
of another sale of a PSA 7 at a similar time and all she could do was issue me an immediate refund. When I asked how it was possible that she had found it twice before, but now
there was no record of ever having had a similar transaction she tried to brush it aside by saying that she obviously just didn;t know what she was talking about.

While the refund was made, I am stunned that 4SC would behave in such a way. They jerked me around for nearly two months with this, and then changed their story, never returned
calls as promised and didn't even care enough about a customer that called in with a problem enough to even remember the details of the situation.

Over the years I have purchased quite a few cards from 4SC, and never had any significant issues. However, from this point forward based on being lied to and jerked around I am basically
treating them as an unreliable supplier whom I will only take the chance of dealing with as a last resort for a hard-to-find item. I am very accepting and understanding that mistakes can be made,
BUT I HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR LYING AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE LIKE THIS.

4SC may have a bunch of desirable items available but I, for one, have had my confidence in them undermined by this incident. If they can't honestly own up to their mistakes and errors then
they have lost me as a customer.

BTW, if anyone has 1970 Topps #715 Mickey Lolich PSA 9 flip #19360479 this is the card that was supposed to come from them.

Best of luck to anyone who continues to buy from 4SC, but beware. If they will act without integrity once, they will probably do it again. I hope that no one here is the next person who gets
treated this way by 4SC.

  • Maybe you should have dealt with someone other then Tracey the second time you had to call in after waiting four weeks.

During any of your conversations with Tracey, did you ask to speak to anyone higher in the food chain? I'm sure you did, but if not that may have produced better results - especially at the point where you had to make a 3rd phone call.

Tracey better be hot or else I dont see why she has the job.
They mix up packages all the time. I have only bought about a 12 items from them and 2 where the wrong item recieved, and I had to mail them back at my cost.
  • I can't help with 4SC but maybe you can enter the serial number that you noted above in your post into your set registry. If it comes up as taken (already in set) at least you will have narrowed who owns it down to a select few.

Unfortunately, there has been more than one of these threads casting them in a not-so-flattering light..

I think you have every right to cut them down. Any way you slice it they were wrong. Sounds like Tracey is no brain doctor, I hope you didn't get too snippy with her. I too have heard of many close shaves people have had with them. Sounds like they may need to trim the fat and get people that are cut out for the job.

Ya, they move a lot of product. I can imagine that once they move to the "next item" they have no idea what the last item they shipped was. No excuse for the crappy customer service. None! Nich, nada!

  • Dave, sorry to hear about your issue. Seems like a quick fix to their problem is to have a system to input customer related issues with transactions. I know they do a lot of business so a pen and paper may not do.

Have been in contact with them also...with exactly the same BS. Called them 2 weeks ago about a card when they first opened in the morning. The lady...I'm assuming Tracey -due to the horrible CS told me to write up what I wanted in an email and she would talk to the owner and get back with me that day.---Totally acted as if she doesn't have time for customers. Never got back with me. So I called them 3 days later and she did not recollect our conversation and I told her of the email and she said she had not checked all of her emails and that she would forward it to the owner and they would get back to me. Well....let's all take a guess...they haven't gotten back with me. She hung up the phone without being courteous at all. I'm not getting in to all of their 10's; but something just doesn't seem right to me.image

  • For the most part, 4SC runs like clock-work from my experience. Although, when there is a problem, it just drags on and on ...
I have a situation going on with them now and it's been a couple of weeks going back and forth with Tracey

They suck. I bought a handful of PSA 9s from their website and they looked like 7s with ATROCIOUS centering, some of the worst I have ever seen on "9s". They would not do a thing for me as "all their graded card sales are final". Screw them.

Yes I understand that it's more of a PSA problem, but there were no scans of the 9s I bought. I was mislead, as I would expect 9s to look like 9s, sight unseen, not 7s.

My opinion of 4SC is that they are so big now, they really don't care about correcting issues, nor do they have the time or resources to. I can barely get anyone there to respond to an email when I have a question about a card. Seriously, its like a coin flip if I get responses back on basic questions. They are a volume shop, not a customer service-focused org.

I finally stopped buying from them because they would never group my invoices correctly so that I could get the right combined shipping rates. I bought 7 cards in one day and they were split into multiple invoices. I emailed and never got a response and after a few weeks, they filed unpaid item claims against me. LOL...

As I said when I posted, as far as 4SC is concerned I am now voting with my wallet.

I do not expect Tracey to be a rocket scientist. I do not expect them to be perfect.

    I EXPECT

    1) HONESTY: Not some BS story after being told something else twice before

    2) FOLLOW-THROUGH: Once they promise to get back to me they should do so. I should not have to chase them over and over again
once I identify that there is a problem

    3) TIMELINESS: The fact that this dragged out so long is not satisfactory

If it were just #2 and #3 I could see giving them an opportunity to improve. But once they violate #1 they are history for me.

And yes, I tried to go around Tracey and also put it all in writing (no reply BTW). I design customer service processes and systems for
Fortune 500 companies as part of how I earn a living. We're talking basic issues here.

Sounds like their corporation has grown out of proportion to their customer support infrastructure. This is a common problem in rapidly growing companies. The person answering the phone is not trained adequately and/or is not incentivized to make customers happy. Management either is unaware of the problem due to lack of oversight, or doesn't give a hoot as long as accounts receivable is not affected.

I see declining customer support as a trend in many large companies. Partly I think reflects a general decline in our culture and manners, and partly management frankly doesn't care about customer relations unless the bottom line is affected.

Won't be long before 4SC outsources their customer service to the Phillipines or India ("Hi Peggy!").

He traveled the country doing customer relations. He too says that companies just don't give a hoot now. It's not like
    it used to be.

You deserve better 70'stopps, but that's the way it is now. Thanks for sharing, and I too will never buy from 4SC again for the
way they duped you. You have my word, and I bought over 100 cards from them last year. I will find other sellers.

70ToppsFanatic, sorry this happened to you.

I used to deliver entry way rugs for a large company and the people who answered the phones were so swamped with calls, they pretty much just gave up. With so many cards being sold, I am sure they can't keep up. This is a management problem that will not go away as long as they are making lots of money.

For whatever reason, 4SC has lots and lots of high grade cards, some at very reasonable prices. You will just have to treat it like the lottery. I have been lucky with them so far.

I agree that your problem was poorly handled, but if the employees had the time and resources, the problem MIGHT have been taken care of in a more professional way.

    Just my thoughts,

    Joe

P.S. Look at how long it takes to get cards added to players sets at PSA, used to be a few weeks, now it takes months. I made requests for 8 cards between 12-27-11 and 1-6-12 and so far nothing. Businesses just don't want to invest in areas that don't generate revenue, even if it hurts them in the long run. It's the new way of doing business, I guess!?!?!?!
