Earliest silver

yesterday the temp went up to 60 andthe sun was shining. Ground moisture was ideal. I spent a couple hours in my favorite local park and dug a 1924 Merc and a 1920 wheatie in the same hole along with $1.08 in clad. This is the 21st silver from this park and my earliest silver by more than a month.

Yes. Before this April 11th was the earliest I had dug a silver coin. There have been many years that I haven't dug anything this early. Most years the ground is still covered with snow or at least standing water on March 8th.

It's a 1886 Canadian dime, hole and well worn and a long way from home... found in the deep south!

My earliest by date(oldest) was a 1917 Merc I dug in the same park in the fall of 2010.

Today I dug a 1943 Merc. That would make it my second earliest silver ever. Gotta love this great spring weather and great ground moisture.
