When will the mint reprice?

I was thinking of purchasing the $5 gold star spangled banner commemorative but heard it will probably be repriced wednesday. Does anyone know when the mint usually does the repriceing?

If the price of gold remains in the $1650 - $1700 trading range until 3/13, it should be repriced either 3/14 or 3/15....

  • The Mint has a policy that dictates when they reprice, and it happens Wednesday mornings, once the London PM Fix for gold (& platinum) are done. They take the avg for the last 7 days, and if it has jumped in to an adjacent pricing "tier", they change the price. Look at the Mint's pricing policy for more info:

I've been following Mint Prices in another thread, and have been showing what will happen that day (either stay the same, go up or go down) for gold & platinum

from what I can see today, the avg gold fix price for the last 6 days is $1698, so as long as the price stays below $1699 tomorrow 3/7, the Mint price for gold will drop $100 tomorrow in the morning. Quite a decrease, since that would be the only drop in price all this year, and a drop of two levels at that (each change in price of $50 for gold changes the Mint price by $50).

  • I should clarify . . . the Price of a 1oz ASE & Buffalo Proof coin, and 1oz ASE uncirculated coin, goes up & down $50 for each tier.

for 1st Spouse, it's $25 change for each $50 change in the price of gold.

Commemoratives are yet another pricing grid, shown here:

  • Thanks for the reply guys. Ill be keeping an eye open tomorrow to see. Its good to see gold take a breather once in awhile so we can get better prices even though I do think long term its going over two thousand an ounce.
  • Looks like they repriced the gold commems to $505 for the proof and $495 for the unc. The gold buffalo is now $100 cheaper at $1,960
