I woulda sprung for the '63-S half and passed on the others. They're all decent pieces, but the others are too common in the condition shown.

I agree these are fairly common coins for the condition, but I gotta ask, you wouldn't buy that trade dollar if it was graded as a fine by the dealer for 110$? image I bought all of these coins for grey sheet bid or less for their respective grade.
Thanks for all the kind comments guys!

I like the 63-S also, these are coins that did their job in commerce. I'll bet they could tell stories if they could talk.
  • The 63-S is my favorite, too. Nice group!

Nice coins! I got my best Civil War-dated coin at that show, eight years ago. It is my "Van Gogh," an 1861-D half eagle in PCGS MS62. It is super original and from a family with long-standing ties to Dahlonega. When I can get enough courage to remove it from the bank vault, I'll get it photographed and share it with fellow Forumites.

On a sour note, I got sick this past week and had to cancel my trip to the Chattanooga show.

I'll join the group that likes the 63-S half the best. The 1861 quarter is OK. The 1878-s is Ok also if you need a type coin in that condition. i would not have bought the 1858 half as these are very common even in XF/AU condition. JHO
