Another MS-67 Walker, 1939

I got this one some time back, I don't think this one's been dipped or anything. It has a bluish 'haze' when tilted a certain way, but the 'haze' has a nice look to it. It's not quite the level of the 1940 example I have, but I'm glad to have it in my collection.

Gorgeous coin Elmer. I love the look of undipped Walkers. So many have been dipped, probably more than any other series.

Nice one, Erik, and great photos, too.
I just recently acquired a 39D in MS66 with beautiful light pink/blue/gold pastel 'hazey' toning, that the dealer charged no premium for.....golly would I like to find a bunch more like it!

Nope not dipped... Is that a hit on the thigh or a stain image

On the thigh, there is a small tick there, but it is greatly exaggerated by the lighting. It's not very obvious unless you tilt it just right. That is the the biggest mark on that coin. The "pincher" like marks on the reverse appear to be tarnish near the rim, not hits.

Another really, really nice 67. You have good taste/eye.

That coin was never dipped. This is the look often found on coins that have spent significant time in original paper rolls. I have opened scores of original rolls of coins from the 1930s through early 1950s and this bluish tint hazy toning is present on a large number of those coins. This is also what I refer to as phlegmy toning. In my opinion it is quite attractive, but not all agree. It seems that there were many unopened rolls of 1939 coins that were later opened to provide the large numbers of high grade Mercs, WQs and WLHs from 1939 with this look.

    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.

    Elmer,

Believe it or not, I like this 1939 almost as much as your 1940 walker.

First, no smudge can be found. image
Second, the reverse is definitely much better struck than on the 1940. It is actually a low end 68 quality.
Third, the obverse is sensational in the center of the obverse with strong breast with only four minor issues

the four minor issues On the obverse:
    1. Cut on the leg
    2. Nick in the thigh
    3. Very slight die striations (this is an early strike) in the right open field
4 strike is somewhat weak in the stars area of the flowing flag.

So the obverse is 66/67 quality

Overall this coin is a 67.5 to 67.6.

    real solid 67 quality.

    Congrats on a fine coin.
