1979 Topps baseball rack pack rip results **Now being ripped: 1975 Topps mini wax packs!

I thought I might follow up my good fortune yesterday with another rack pack rip, albeit this one with a much lower risk/reward ratio, and settled in on a 1979 Topps baseball rack pack. The rack was really clean and the cards were very sharp and clean, better than usual. As an added bonus, I got 41 cards instead of the advertised 39, LOL! I am slowly putting together a graded set consisting solely of self-submitted cards, so I was pleasantly surprised. Here are some of the pulls:

Please stop this madness Tim. I hope the only reason you ripped it is because you knew you'd pull that Grote card. image

The Grote card was not showing. Otherwise, I'd sold it as a rack with a star on top, LOL..

Was the Grote a double print in 1979?

    +1 Man!

Sell the next mini rack to me too.

I know the Mets are gonna suck this year but you will need to come up with a better way to cure your
boredom during the Spring and Summer rather than rip these beauties.....image

....actually it is 79 baseball so that is not that big a deal!

LOL, Manny, this was a 79 rack--that's modern junk to you! image

Don't worry, I will PM you to sell more when I scratch this ripping itch...it usually takes about 3-4 days to subside!

BBG, thanks for kind words! I am hoping that I have a couple of 10s in this group for sure!

As some of you alreday know, my favorite set of the 70s is the the 1975 Topps mini baseball set, so I decided to extend my pack ripping spree to a half box of 1975 mini wax packs I've had stored away since buying it after the REA auction that featured sealed mini cases from the Conlon estate.

Here's the first set of four cards. The Winfield is really nice and perfectly centered on back, too. I'm very excited about that as it's one of the tougher cards in the set and a HOFer to boot:

  • grote15grote15 Posts: 29,749 ✭✭✭✭✭
Next group of 4...especially elated about the Campy as it is a beast to find centered. I've pulled probably 20 Camapaneris cards over the past couple years, and this one is the first IU've ever pulled with even decent centering, and this one looks very nice!

Mini wax packs contain 10 cards, but I'm scanning only the better looking cards in groups of 4.

Next group of 4...these packs had the backs of the cards facing through the back of the wrapper, so you couldn't see who the back card was. Unfortunately, that meant I didn't realize till after opening one of the packs that Yount was the card on back...and since it was the back of the card facing the seal, the wax stain was on back, too!

all of you unopened collectors do understand that all of these cards were made to be opened and find out what players were inside right? How many kids that enjoy cards have unopened packs? I'd guess, not many, if any. And if they do have unopened packs as children then I'd bet that it's not a very interesting or fun childhood, lol.

I'm halfway kidding of course, but I do believe in the fun aspect of ripping this vintage stuff. I'm so competitive and have played sports all my life, now I need that outlet or the adrenaline rush of poker, gambling on golf/stocks, and yes, opening higher end packs. To each his own I guess, but if I hit the lottery or become the next Mark Cuban I can gaurantee that the unopened supply of vintage will go WAY down, lol.
