Advise on selling Peace dollar set

Looking for some opinions here. What is the best way to sell a complete mint state Peace Dollar set in a Dansco-type album - most of these coins were acquired in the early 1990's and were previously graded by PCGS or NGC in the 62-64 range.

Is resubbing them the best way to go, but at $18-30 a pop not sure if too expensive relative to their value? Any thoughts or prior experiences appreciated.

Thanks.

I do not have any experience in selling but when buying, I feel more comfortable buying PCGS over raw (I think 99% of the population feel this way). Having them slabbed opens up your interested buyers.

You also need to know how you want to sell them.

    For example:

    1. Do you want to sell them as a set?
    2. Do you want to auction them off?
    3. Do you want to do a private auction?
    4. Is time an issue or can you take your time selling to maximize profit?

    Just a few thoughts,
    good luck,
    Ray

Resubmit the keys, if they are as you said MS 62-64 range.
"Bongo drive 1984 Lincoln that looks like old coin dug from ground."
  • Resubmit these to maximize your returns and auction them on ebay with no reserve (or the cheapest list method that day) if they all make UNC.
    1934s
    1925s
    1928s
    1935s
    1927s
    1927d
    1921

Sell all the rest to a B&M and shoot for 2x melt as a group plus the value of the 1928 at the AU58 level. There is little difference in value of the 28p form 55-62 so unless you have thoughts of it being a 63+ there is no upside on grading it and it will give the dealer reason to buy the rest of the group. Any of the top list that come back AU ( some will ) need to be added to the bottom group except for the 34s and 21. One last piece of advice is if you aren't a PCGS member and you sign up for a membership that gives you 8 vouchers to submit add the 28p but still include it with the B&M group, The core keydates are bread and butter for dealers. Cheers

That is pretty concise advice -- nothing I can add to it.

I sold a set like that intact to a dealer at Baltimore a few years back and did better than I thought. I would take it to a big show and shop it to a few specialists and if you don't like the numbers, then do the above. The keys will draw dealers to either offer more or try to knock it down so I would try to sell it intact first.

    I like your thinking
  • unless you take amazing pictures you simply will not get good value on the BST for raw common coins. The only people getting the value will be the buyers and even them most of them will cherry pick the value from your offering.
  • If they have some nice toning they can be worth a premium, if they do have anything with nice colors and are UNC get them slabbed then slap them on the bay. Heres some examples...
