Colorful Walker

Bought this one years ago for the color. It was in an NGC holder when I bought it, but it crossed over successfully. I'm not good at grading Walkers, and was frankly surprised when it crossedimage

  • I guess brown is a color
  • Sorry, I am not seeing it. It is toned. It first struck me as secondary actually - can't say. Crossed as a.........65? 64 or ?

I would have left it in the original holder, I don't see the whole crossover thing.

Boy, tough crowd today. I think it's a nice example, and it seems you are pleased with it, which is what's most important.

Looks like great color and luster, definitely not secondary toning. Solid 64?

  • I must be confused. Is not brown/yellow the most common tone on silver, secondary or otherwise? I just can't see this being called "colorful"? BTW, I meant it looked secondary, not that it was secondary. Would anyone pay a premium for this tone? What is the grade - 65?

And yes, it did make 65, though to be honest, it seems to have a lot of chatter, and I couldn't have argued with a 64. (and here I thought it must have gotten a bump for the colorimage)

This is my favorite type of toning. I like it a lot.

Well, at least I got the crossover grade right! image I am not saying I don't like it or it is not nice. It is. I just think the term colorful should be applied to something a little unusual. It was not what I was expecting from the thread title. But, a nice little gem. I would grade as 64+ I suppose - agree re chatter, but still very attractive.

Terrific coin- look at the fields and the sun and those areas look good- yes there is some chatter but the whole look makes it a Gem.

I like it -- it has eye appeal to me. The toning in the fields sets out the devices nicely. The marks in the lower right obverse field probably prevent a higher grade as it has a nice strike for a 44, which is often soft in the middle compared to the 40-43 P mints.

Yes, I go 65 myself after looking again (the 64+ was my grade, 65 was my PCGS cross grade guess). It is a Gem, and has a great look. If there is Rose and lavender I'll go colorful too - but it does not seem quite strong enough. But, I like the color as is. Nice sun and reverse, strike is decent. Luster is booming under that skin obviously. It's a very nice 65 actually - sometimes I gotta look again image

well, you should tell us the grade to see if we are also surprised.

  • Yes its brown but there is a difference between ice brown and ugly brown. This one is very nice and has reds blues and oranges in those browns. I bet if you look at it in the magnification the brown is actually a composite mix of reds and other colors.

    nice coin....i like it
i too am a lil surprized with 65 due to those hits in the obv field and on her out stretched arm

The 1944 comes moderately to heavily abraded. This one is rather clean in the wider context of this issue.

It also has an above average strike even for a Philly issue.

The color is not rainbow but it looks quite lusterous and original.

    Bottom line--I like it alot.

I think I like it. To the OP, don't worry about folks knocking your color description. I see so many long time posters calling their coins "Rainbow" and Crusty" that absolutely don't even come close. Seldom do they get called out on it. I see a color or two on coins posted and it's rainbow. I see a little bit of brown, or dipped and retoned brown and they call it crusty. OK, all done now. image

As nice as the image is I don't think it is showing the true color of this Walker. I bet it is really nice in hand.

Nice looking Walker... I can see that in a 5 holder... Especially with the amount of luster that coin has...

Beautiful antique bronze toning with underlying luster and I find it appealing. Well done!!!
