<< <i>I personally like the Stone Mountain, the Texas and the Walker the most. They are all beautiful. You have a really good eye! Congrats and thank you for sharing! >>
Thanks! Everyone seems to like that Stone Mountain!

<< <i>Nice Antietam!.... >>
I agree, one of the nicest Antietam coins I have seen in my very limited experience. I also like the Texas, but I love pretty much all Texas commems in any grade.

<< <i>I wonder the ROI on buying plastic >>
Actually pretty good, considering I could likely sell all of them for a profit, especially those two CAC golds and the proof dime!

I could see myself owning the Proof dime, but not because of the holder. Vintage plastic doesn't do anything for me. Only the coin.

Yes, a few of the imaged coins (the proof Walker is great) are lookers, but they were bought primarily for the plastic first, no? Should there be a new forum.....the 'Plastics Forum'? As for the ROI, were it not for the stickers, I think Actually pretty good, considering I could likely sell all of them for a profit might not be so certain. Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe that you should collect what you like, but, man, the emphasis on plastic variations has really snowballed the last few years, no? When are we going to see census' on TPG's from other than our hosts plastic and those from ATS?
edited to add....no offense at all to those who really actively seek them out, but the interest is really starting to balloon
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
<< <i>Seems lately, the emphasis is on plastic, labels, and stickers (I'm still collecting coins). Coin collectors are 'numismatists'....should there be a new term for those who seek out plastic/labels/stickers???

Just fyi, you don't know what I paid for them. And as for the Walker and Seated, I wouldn't have bought them if I didn't love the coins as much as the plastic!

Personally I don't see a problem with it although I myself do not collect the craze.
I just tried to think of a smart sounding example to counter what you're saying but it hurt my brain.
So.
Yea.
I never claimed to know, nor asked, what you paid...I would think a BTW in 64, or a Lex in 63 wouldn't cost alot. However, if you are paying premiums for the plastic, those coins in those grades could only be save by the stickers IF you overpaid. I merely suggested the collecting of plastic variations is snowballing. Personally? Anyone can collect what they want...it's your money, not mine. However, you yourself admitted you did buy them for the love of the plastic, as much as the coin. What happens when the supply of these variations dry up? What happens when the 'glare' wears off??? And, it may, it may not. Merely saying it's a growing trend for some. For me, it's about the coin...I don't care what plastic it's in (I DO care about the TPG that grades it).
No offense means I'm not trying to offend you. If I was going to say something negative, I would NOT have made it clear I wasn't offending you, which you seem to think I was..
Thats beause I was not being offensive, yet the OP thinks I was. My 'wingman', DRUNNER, is one of the biggest hunter of Doilies....if I was offending coinkid for collecting these 2.1's, I'd be offending Jeff, also, for collecting Doilies, and THAT is something I would NEVER do, and he'd back me on that. I am NOT doing that....I am merely stating that the accumulation of ALL slab variations is snowballing big time, just in the last 2 or so years. Conder made his lists YEARS ago, but noone was chasing them back then, when the info was available...it's just recently. And, to be honest, I would really hate to see ANYONE get burned IF interest in these slab varieties waned. It started with the Doily, and in Billet7's Doily census post, the very first post, he mentions he got one from a fellow forum member...guess who that member was....give you one guess. I'm not against it...I believe you have the right to collect what you want. I'm merely observing it's become HUGE in the last 2 years or so, and now it's carried over to slabs from ATS......but again, the rarity info was made available years ago, and there was no real interest then...just recently, and it HAS snowballed, and now they are being sought after just as much as coins are.
Nice pieces, great pics too!
Don't worry, I don't take offense to your opinion. But the point I was trying to make was that i honestly didn't pay too much of a premium for any of my 2.1's. However, I have a Washington Quarter in the mail that I DID pay quite a premium for, but it's ok because I want to try to get to a box of 20!
Thanks for your compliment on the walker btw, I like that one as well!

<< <i>PQ collection, super nice. I think NGC was correct on the BTW, CAC was generous. >>
I think CAC was right. The roughness on the cheek is from the original planchet I believe, not from hits. Thus, the coin is as struck. NGC probably thought they were bag marks.

Thanks, Paul! I don't talk badly about what ANYONE collects! AsI said, my first rule is to collect what you like (and I DO like that proof Walker...gonna make me look for one for myself, now!). As a matter of fact, I love blast white coins, and some of the ones you posted are toned and nice, but those blast white ones you posted are screaming beauties! But that Walker, I don't know if it's just me, but it screams out to me! I appreciate your understanding of what I was trying to get at. Truth be told, I, myself, was trying to put at least one of every example on Conder's list, when I realized the Doily was made for a very short period of time, then I ran across his list og those from ATS, as I had a 2.0 for a long time....the embossing difference was what made me find the list of varieties from ATS, but I just couldn't seem to come up with that durn 2.1!!! I was able to find Doilies MUCH easier than the 2.1.... and again, this was before this whole collecting of different slab varieties really caught fire. I mean, I'd run across a Doily more than just once in awhile, but I made a concerted effort to FIND the 2.1 and just couldn't.....anywhere. Which leads me to believe the 2.1's COULD be scarcer than a Doily!

Oh, they almost certainly are! They made them for a week and a half in 1987, and only produced 3500 of them. Comparing the two slab censuses, the doily one has 400+, compared to 69 in the 2.1 census. I just love the look of them. As for the proof walker, I got mine from David Lawrence, so keep an eye on his site!

<< <i>Very very nice but what's going on with Booker's chin? Are those scratches or whiskers? >>
I believe those are from the Planchet not striking up fully, not from hits.

<< <i>"buy the holder, not the coin" ................................................. of course those are sweet slabs, but the coins are all quite appealing, too. I enjoy collecting OGH and rattler slabs......but only with eye appealing coins.......finding them with appealing coins takes patience. Have you ever passed on a 2.1 slabbed coin? Or do you pick it up regardless of the quality of the coin inside if the price is decent? If so, you've gotten dang lucky so far to find 'em with nice lookin' coins inside to boot.
Thanks!! I've only passed on them because of price. For example, there are some up on eBay now, but the premiums are far too high, as evidenced by them not selling for the past month or two they've been up.

<< <i>Superb!! This is very impressive to say the least I can see how this would be a difficult task and you did such a good job. Congratulations...Joe >>
Thanks Joe! I could say the same thing about all of your awesome Buffaloes! They're always so toned, hammered, and all-around awesome!!
