I tried to list a replica......
and was not allowed to! Whoooohooooooooooooo!
In doing a search for replica in the coins category I didn't find one listed today.
They are going the way of the Dodo, which does please me!
bob
PS: I really do not have a replica to list, just testing the waters.

Say, you're not a Peter Falk lookalike who drives a silver Jeep Liberty with Nevada license plates, are you?
If so, I passed you on US 17 on my way past Jekyll Island to go to work the other day. The Jeep's license plate said "AUAG", so I wondered.

If they turn out to be replicas or counterfeit, the seller will be fully responsible for the results, be it a full refund, or having the law called on them.
Maybe it will make the slicksters think twice about vague descriptions.
<< <i>With the new policy concerning replicas, any coins listed will be considered genuine by default.

If anything at all, it will encourage folks to NOT say its a replica or a copy and we'll be back to where we were a couple of years ago.
As usual, eBay knee jerk response to not having a numismatic board of expert's doesn't really do anything other than make them look like they are doing something.
Say, are these guys headquartered in Washington?
The name is LEE!
i'm sure many will list with reworded descriptions and be fine so long as they state...like...not original...faux...likeness...etc
"shame on you au&ag"..."whats made in vegas should stay in vegas"...hehehe just kiddin
<< <i>in theory this will prevent any replica coins from being listed for sale on ebay, in reality, it will only prevent the honest people from listing replicas for sale on ebay... much the same false security one would feel when locking the car door, it keeps the honest people from getting in your car... the trouble is, the honest people arent the ones to worry about >>
Yep. I would expect a lawsuit from companies who make legitimate replicas. ---Jerry

There are a number of things eBay prohibits the sale of on their site. Why should replicas be any different?
<< <i>There are plenty of replicas still available. Just a quick search for 1916 Mercury dimes found a half dozen replicas. A search on 1909 S VDB's found about the same amount. I'm sure if you did a search on other dates and series you'll find more replicas.

Yes, but they were already listed when the new rules went into effect. They cannot be relisted if they do not sell.
The rules began today. From now on and does not apply to previously listed items.

This coin is not being sold as a replica or copy but rather the real thing. the top of the 8 has two loops instead of one and it actually looks comical. the 8 looks like a cousing of pacman!

Because there is no good reason to prohibit replicas and replicas have been alllowed on ebay long enough that companies may have dedicated significant resources to selling replicas on ebay and these are now stranded resources.
Other items not allowed, guns and counterfeits come to mind, have reasons behind banning them that hold water. For replicas, we're telling some legitimate company that follows the law, specifically the Hobby Protection Act, and sells a collectible product, that ebay is banning your legal product because we think others are selling illegal products.
