Wow what a bargain. Look at those deep mirror fields. This is clearly the 1794 special strike...only 3 known. Clearly a bargain for $500. I'm being sarcastic but I wonder if any of these listings that folks dismiss actually contain some long lost rarity heh.
<< <i>The half dime looks like one of the old Gallery Mint products. >>
No. this piece looks to be a lot smaller than that. It looks like one of those satirical "Nixon coins" that was issued during the 1970s.
At any rate the buyer is a fool for paying that much for this thing. He's down more than $545 if it's a small as I think it is, even if it's made of silver.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. << <i>And the seller has already received raving, positive feedback! >>
It looks like the feedback was cut off and, from my guess, the buyer returned the item. Here it is:
"Top notch! First class all the way. Individual had a copy unbeknownst to him and"
I read that to say that the buyer realizes the seller didn't know the coin was a copy (a bit of a stretch, but go with it), and the seller handled things well after that. It's hard to believe that the seller wouldn't know this is fake, but the buyer deserves just as much criticism for thinking the coin real.
