Home Metal Detecting

Are we still doing the monthly awards?

Today my daughter and I were out on some trails and found this (Bottom right corner of the picture):

That there is a 1952 Nickle.

    1979 Memorial cent.

Mind you, no metal detector, these were visual finds image

That might be a good place to detect. Is that a crawl in cave?

I'm not sure how deep, both of these holes are connected. From what I could see, it went in about eight feet.

A few years back I gave my MD away (To my Uncle). I have been meaning to get a new one... Haven't taken the plunge yet.

I would guess that you wouldn't want to get to close to the edge on this trail?image

    Cool pix! Cool place!

I think the monthly awards might've fallen by the wayside (as has my own diggin' this last year or so), but I'm still around and it's good to see the forum is still goin!

It would be good to go through that cave with an MD... people buried things in caves or stuck them in crevices... well worth the effort. Lost change indicates usage.. so you never know... Cheers, RickO

I found a cool turn-of-the-century patent medicine bottle ("Cardui: The Woman's Tonic") in a small cave like that once. It would've been from before the law in (1906? 1908?) that put an end to such things. Ain't no tellin' what you might find. Finding old pocket change near the mouth of it is kind of intriguing.

Regardless, it's a really neat lookin' place, as I said before. Thanks for the pix.

BTW, this picture is the sort that would have most mothers gritting their teeth and pulling their hair out from worry, haha.

Oh, and hey- even if there are no old bottles or more coins in there, don't forget who the earliest inhabitants of such a cave might have been. Keep a sharp eye peeled for arrowheads and other projectile points, if you should happen to go there again. A detector won't help you with stone artifacts, naturally, but it looks like you've got that sharp eye already.

Next time I go out, I'm going to bring my pin pointer MDer and crawl into this hole image
