      Very nice coin.
There sure were a lot of problems for the mint in that era.
Imagine if they had sprinkler systems back then. Sure would have been a whole different
      history for numismatics.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

For my personal knowledge, could you explain how this is the easiest mint set to complete. Is it mintage totals or overall survival rate of coins or someting else?

BTW I really like the look and color of that cent.

A few years ago we ran a Coin World ad to that effect:

I bought the coin in that ad in 2008. One could assemble a complete variety-mint set by getting all 9 Newcomb varieties.

      I bought a complete 1816 year set several years ago. I think it's VF20ish.

The cent was the only business stike coin minted in 1816. As there were no silver or gold coins minted, you only need the cent to complete a mint set for 1816.

Actually the 1815 half dollars were all struck in January 1816 and part of the
1815 quarter dollar coinage was also struck in January 1816.

picky, picky....................perhaps it would be better phrased to say that the Cent is the only regular circulation issue "dated" 1816. the early Mint and even the more recent Mint often overlapped year-of-manufacture with year-dated.

Hmmmmm. That fits nice with my type set........

Thanks Keets for clarifying that. I thought since the topic was "1816 mint set" it went without saying. My bad, I obviously could have stated it better.

Sweet piece of copper, old too!!
The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

      Denga,
Thank you for that clarification. I learned something---please post more often.
