Ave circ or Good?

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,613 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm planning on taking a roll of "V" nickels to a local coin show tomorrow to try to sell. I see from the "Greysheet" that the bid for a roll of Ave. circ is about 1/2 that of a G-better roll. I picked out two of worst coins from my roll and ask are they Ave. circ or Good? Is the difference a full rim? Also, the roll has (10) 1883 N/C coins in it. What do you think I should be able to get for the roll? TIA

    average circulated IMO

Take whatever you can get for it, really.

I agree with Barndog. This is the kind of stuff that would be sitting in dealers stock for a long time right now.

Believe it or not these were still circulating when I was a kid and just started collecting. We
didn't see them everyday in the early/mid 50's but we did see them. These are typically how
we saw them One, two or maybe three letters in Liberty and maybe none at all. Everyone
saved the 1883 no cents nickel and they are dime a dozen and usually can be found quite
easily in XF and UNC. You can expect more for them but not much more as so many were saved.

Barndog is right. Just unload it for whatever you can get and don't look back.

Lucky if you get any buyers at all. I was in a similar situation not long ago. Couldn't even score enough for a Happy Meal! image
Might want to find a YN to just give them too. or put then in a coin club door prize etc..

These brought back one of my first memories in a B&M establishment. I was new to collecting and was just shooting for a series of dates. Knowing little to nothing about the Liberty Nickel, the dealer and I were rooting thru his raw material (They kept them in cigar boxes back then I believe) and as we found each date (I think I paid like .15 cents per coin) we pulled them out and lined them up on the glass counter. As we made our way thru the dates we landed on the 1913... I remember him pausing, looking down to me (I was very young) and quoting something in the hundred thousands of dollars for the coin...lol. Obviously I did not get one.

They cost 50 cents apiece back when I was a kid in the '70's, a liberty nickel was one of the first coins I bought for more than face value, along with an indian cent and buffalo nickel.

They're still "worth" 50 cents apiece for Ave circ. common dates. I've spent a number of culls over the years.
