Norse Medal - Newp - Show them if you have/like them

Just got this in the mail today from Keets (who acquired it from Anaconda). NGC 64. Really like it and would love to see your Norse's if you have them and/or like them.

One of the greatest designs ever. Should have been a commem coin. I love these.

I have always liked that medal (but don't own one---it's too removed from my medal-collecting interests). Too bad a similar design was never used for a classic commemorative.

The Thin one is an NGC 66 - the Thick is a PCGS 65.

The Thin was very difficult to locate.

    Nicest Norse I ever handled:

That one ended up grading Matte Proof-65 at PCGS, if memory serves.

Least nicest Norse I ever handled:

those were struck by the Mint in bronze and Silver plated by a Private Firm post-strike. they sometimes show up as a plain bronze medal because they have been dipped and the very thin plating has been removed. i followed one of the bronze medals on eBay about 1-2 years ago but it got "recognized" by too many members and went too high for my liking.

here's my Thin Norse that was the companion to the OP's newbie. image

Mine are headed for the retoning booth soon. Gonna put them in an album environment and see what happens over the next few years. image

speaking of toning, has anyone else encountered the fact that the Thin medals tend to be more readily available in pleasant tone than the Thick medals??

Is that due to differences in the stock usage and washing steps? Weren't the thick ones made from cut-out dollar stock, and the thin ones from half-dollar stock (or something like this)?

This is the best toned thin planchet example I've seen. I used to own it. Sold it to Bruce Scher and I don't know if he still has it or not. Great examples in this thread! image
