This P01 deserves a plus or a gold sticker

$250??!!! If I'm going to pay a $200 premium for a low ball coin, it needs to be a lot more worn than that. Oh, the craziness of low ball coins!

So are you saying that you want a lot less coin for the money?image

I wonder if PCGS and NGC will issue MINUS grades for low ball enthusiasts. Will minus grade coins command a significant premium over regular coins for the grade?

    That would be something

I will never understand why people will pay XF-45 money for a PO-1 coin.

With that strong a date they are fortunate that they didn't get a FR02 instead of the PO01.

I have never understood the fascination with these low grade coins.... at least not for the prices realized. I would keep any CC coin, even that one, but never at a price like that. That type of worn coins are often found in 'junk boxes' at small shows.

Not a CC, but get this one for half the price and it's in worse shape:
    1876 PO1

    Not a half dollar either.

Half the price and also half the coin--It's a quarter.image The piece referred to by the OP is a half dollar.

Would my 1821 CBQ qualify for a PO1?

Oops! You're right. Well then, half the price for half the coin makes perfect sense! Haha!

The coin in the opening post is nice.
Seated coins seem to inherently have more "meat" at every grade, and PO01 is no exception. I think this is one is graded correctly.
    When in doubt, don't.

Exactly what I thought. Too much meat on the bone for a PO-01 . I would not crack it ever cause i doubt it would see a PO-01 again. ( if u wanted to cross it ).

So don't dare sent it ATS, no telling what astronomical grade they would assign it.

Please see recent threads about the top two grading services.

I now return you back to your original programming.

You can always subject a coin to more wear, but you can't (literally) undo it!

+1 On a serious note, I think PCGS is right that this coin is a PO-1 and no higher.

Back in the 1960's you could walk into almost any brick and mortar coin shop and find boxes full of worn out or damaged coins like this (obviously, raw, not slabbed).

The silver/gold run up of 1979-80 sent much of this kind of coin to the melting pot.

This kind of coin does nothing for me. To me it is just worn out junk.

    All glory is fleeting.
